What do you think caused the small hole in the skull, maybe a poacher with a 22 or fighting another buck?

Sorry Stub I missed your question. That hole probably is from fighting. That side of the rack had been broken into the skull in a previous year. You can see how it is larger at the base on that side and grew back differently after it healed up. My guess is he probably broke that hole antler side out of his skull at some time. I have seen WT bucks break an antler out their skull and grow weird antlers on that side for a year or two. I have seen them break that side out of their skull every year after the first year also. Some heal up and never break that antler side out again just have abnormal antler growth on that side. I think this bucks very nontypical left antler is a result from some type of skull/pedicle damage at some point in is his life.

stud of a deer and great write up ... I was visualizing completely, even a bit of buck fever leading up to the shot, then the adrenaline rush following the shot but not seeing the deer drop. Great friends are hard to come by but sounds like you have one for sure.

STX great writeup and pics. Congrats on a very cool buck.

Nothing like closing the deal on a buck you have history with and sharing the hunt with a great friend.
