I had set up to ambush a wandering sounder that had been hitting a feeder very regularly each morning. As usual, the sounder didn't appear, and I was packing it up when this little one, all by itself, came trotting out about 20 yards from my hide. I had all the heavy artillery packed and ready to move, so I pulled out my trusty KelTec PMR 30 and gave him a pair in the ear hole.

I have a PMR30! It very well may be the loudest gun I own below .50 BMG, LOL. They are nicely accurate. Good shooting!

On several occasions, I have been watching feeders when a lone piglet or juvenile came in, maybe had a few bites, and then left, then to have the whole sounder show up a few minutes later, like the piglet or juvenile were scouts for the rest of the group. Sometimes, the loner comes in and doesn't leave, but is followed by the rest of the group a few minutes later.

Don't get me wrong, I think you did the right thing in killing the little guy. I will take 1 over none any day. I can also say that I have had a little loner come in, grab a couple of bites and dash back into the woods as I patiently wait on the rest of the sounder to come in that never does.

Just something to consider. juggle

Another one bites the dust!

Yeah, you never know what's really going to happen, but you got one.

I was out a few days ago. Camera showed some piglets coming to a feeder that wasn't working. They stayed less than a minute, then disappeared and didn't return. Sometimes it's good to take what's available.

I have two unwritten rules:
1.
2.

Yeah, DNS, I've faced the dilemma a few times myself. I had been in the blind for 4 hours while the gnats, flies and mosquitoes feasted on me, I had already packed my real hog artillery, and just wasn't interested in extending the hunt, so I terminated both the hunt and the little pig and called it an evening! The piglet will be on the pellet smoker this weekend! One down, 14 million to go. . .

I hear you, der Teufel! I'm batting less than 50% on my taking a chance that the lone visitor is a scout or just got separated from the rest of the sounder. Sometimes I try to wait 'em out; sometimes I don't. Depends on the hunting conditions and my attitude (which grows worse as the time creeps on!). "A pig in hand is better than a pig in the bush," as the old saying goes. Or something like that.

Nice. Love a good pistol shot- especially on a hog.
