I have not posted in a while and thought I would post some pics from last years hunts. I had the best hunting year I have had in 50 yrs of hunting. I was able to start the year off in January on an MLD hunt in the lower part of the Texas Panhandle and took my biggest WT to date. Beautiful ranch and it was fun hunting that area of the state again. He had 15 scoreable points and a lot of tine length. The shot was a little over 200 yards with my .280.
I was able to finally get a chance at taking a Pronghorn in early September thanks to an invite from a friend. It was not a Texas Pronghorn but from Oklahoma. Turned out to be a great trip and fun time with friends. We saw lots of Pronghorns but they were either traveling or on property adjacent to where we were hunting. My friend was able to decoy this one from a good distance away off of the neighbors. The decoying of the buck in made it a memorable shot and hunt. My shot was a little over 210 yards with my .280
Then finally in early December I was able to connect on my biggest Mule Deer to date. I am proud of the fact that he was from West Texas and taken on our lease. It is hard to see all the points and character of this buck in these pics. He had tremendous mass and until you see him in person it is hard to tell how big he was. He had 17 scoreable points and over 43" of mass. The shot was at about 215 yards with my .280
I will post a few pics of the mounts later on in this thread. They all turned out fantastic and they capped of a bucket list year for me.
Great great year for sure. Thanks for sharing. Im sure you have some live deer pics and pics of the ranches/habitat so hope you post those at some point when you find time. That Mule is sure interesting and big but ill take the WT all day long.
Keep your gratitude higher than your expectations. RWH
Pics of the WT mount. I built the base out of old barndwood from a chicken house that my grandparents built from reclaimed lumber in the mid 40's. I really like the form on this mount and the detail was really well done on the mount. He had four tines from 12" to 14" and really good mass/beam length.
I was actually on a MLD rut mule deer hunt when we found the WT. Ranch had permits for both so I had to "settle" for the WT. Lucky is more the correct term and then on the MD, blessed with a very close friend who found the buck and then passed on him. He was not what he was looking for. I will post a story and recap on that MD hunt sometime later on. Close friends are something I have been blessed with.....
