I’ve loaded many straight wall cartridges for lever action and crimp them firmly. I’m finally getting around to the 35 Remington loads since I’m running out of ammo. I’ve never crimped a bottle neck cartridge but feel I need to for the tube magazine. Give me some direction here gentlemen.

Yes you should crimp them, these days I like the Lee factory crimp die but I used a roll crimp for years without an issue. If you go with a roll crimp you should really use bullets that have a crimping groove for the crimp hold well. You can use the Lee Factory crimp without the groove. For consistent crimp its best to trim your brass to the same length.

Lee FC is all I use on my straight wall cases. I’ll order one for the 35. I’m sure they make em.

Loading 35 Rem right now, used the Lee Factory Crimp for a very long time. Have you ever done any accuracy tests with the FCD? I know Lee says it will absolutely positively improve the accuracy of your handloads; but Lee is the best thing in the world, according to Lee. I like the FCD and use it on a lot of ammo, but I’ve never tested the accuracy difference it makes.

Have you ever done any accuracy tests with the FCD? Sorry for the delay TC, May was busy. Yes, decades ago, I compared ammunition across my leverguns; 30-30 Win, 32 Win, 35 Rem, 375 Win, 38-55 Win, and 444 Marlin. Hands down FPS ES/SD and MOA were tighter. This was the same loads using traditional crimping via a bullet seating die vs. the FCD. In that, all this ammunition is loaded on a turret press the FCD is easier to use that readjusting or purchasing a bullet seating die to perform the operation.

Like I said, I use the FCD on a lot of rifle calibers, and every pistol caliber I load. I never saw it hurting accuracy, but never could tell if it helped either.
