Yesterday me and Dad set out on another Crappie adventure. Got on the water at 6:30am and headed for the first spot. As soon as we dropped our jigs in the water we knew we had a uphill battle ahead of us. The flood gates at the damn must have been wide open because before your jig could hit bottom the current would carry it probably 6'-10'. That kinda situation makes the fish easier to target but usually harder to catch. We stayed there about 20 minutes and Dad got 2 keepers and I think I had maybe 3 bites and that was it. We decided we needed to get as far away from the main river channel as possible so we made a long run to another spot. On the way to the other spot I decided to graph over one of the main humps on the way and it was loaded with Sandies!!! Im am talking acres and acres of them stacked up right on the bottom. For a second I thought we were about to fill the livewells but it wasn't happening. We dangled lures in front of their face for about 15 minutes and couldn't even get a bite. That's when it really set in just how hard this day might end up being. We continued on to the second Crappie hole. We fished there until about 10:30am but just couldn't put any kind of a pattern together so I decided to make a short run to a spot I haven't Bass fished in probably 10+ years. I figured the water was to shallow for this time of year but I wanted to check it out anyway. It looked so good I just had to dunk a lure so I pulled out the only rod in the boat I had rigged up for Bass and stuck 4 really nice chunks in about 45 minutes flipping some of the thickest stuff I could find. That should have been my first clue I needed to stick with Bass fishing but I was stubborn and ran back to the Crappie hole. We fished for Crappie until about 2pm and I said that's enough. I had been telling Dad all day my offshore Bass honey hole should be loading up with fish but we needed the sun to get all the way up high before they would be there. That spot was right on the way back to the ramp so I stopped the boat. First cast I caught a 5 pounder and we both had to laugh at how we had wasted our day picking on the Crappie. For the next 2 hours we caught nice Bass after nice Bass. These fish looked incredibly healthy for just coming out of the spawn! At one point I positioned the boat to get Dad the best cast of the day. I told him there is always a good one there so he made the cast and got nothing. I said "no way there aint a fish there" so I threw to the spot. My bait never hit bottom before I set the hook and got broke off. In all we caught about 40 Crappie but only 15 keepers. Not bad but not great either. My only regret was not focusing on the Bass sooner. Here are a few pics. Only 1 Bass picture that wont give away my location.

It’s getting summer tough. I pulled up on one of my holes yesterday and told my son we’re about to hammer them. Only caught 12 out of that massive pile.
