I have 2 rifles and 2 scopes but they aren’t really exactly what I’m wanting at the moment. One is a Christensen Mesa long range 6.5 cr and the other is a custom 300wm. I have a Leupold LRP 4.5-14 ffp and the other being a vortex viper pst 6-24. I’m wanting to have both setup for hunting and target shooting. More target for the 6.5. I’m a Leupold fan boy as some would say so I’m biased on the LRP but not really the magnification range I’m looking for on targets. Vortex I’m not just sold on it works as far as tracking and all but I don’t like the 6.5x on the low end. So I’m thinking sell both and buy 2 vx5hd? Just coming here for some general knowledge and recommendations from the crowd. Just kinda thinking out loud here and needed some input. General conversations welcome

Sounds to me like you’ve already solved your problem. A pair of VX-5s will do nicely. I had VX-6HD that I really liked and tracked well for me but others have suggested otherwise so take note of that. It’s been said by enough people that Leupold has inconsistent turrets. Guess I’ve just been fortunate.

I had a vx5hd but I just sighted it in and left it I wasn’t dialing in shots when I had it so can’t comment on that but I have read the bad but I just have had nothing but good luck with Leupold but haven’t dialed much haven’t even messed with this LRP yet.

I am a big fan of the VX-5/6 scopes. I think the VX-5HD is a great option for what you are wanting, especially in a hunting scope since it is lightweight and has excellent glass clarity.

What about the Mk 5, since you're looking at both target and hunting? 3.6-18 gets you lower on the bottom and better than 14 on the top.

I did agree with the two VX-5 but if your budget is going to be $1000/scope I would get one 5HD and one SS 5-20HD. I actually sold my VX-6HD and replaced it with a SS 5-20. While it’s still a good hunting scope it’s an excellent target scope. I bought mine on here used but as new for under your budget.

Can grab two SHVs (demos) for about $1700 from Sport Optics. Can grab two VX5HDs for about $1600 from Locked Loaded. Can grab MK5s for about $1500 a pop from Liberty.
