I have a gravely zthd60 60" mower and want to try mulching blades without using the baffle kit that completely eliminates side discharge. Has anyone ever used the gator g3, g5, or g6 blades? There are certain times, in certain areas, where side discharge will be necessary due to tall grass/weeds in the back of the property, but I want to mulch the landscaped area to help the bermuda grass.

I actually just ordered a set of copperhead blades this morning - they're similar to the gator blades in design so I'm curious how they'll work. I've only used standard high lift blades on my mower - so curious to see the difference. Would have went with gator - but amazon had the copperheads that will be here tomorrow vs next friday.

I’ve got an Ariens and bought their kit...I don’t believe with their design you could run it without the baffles. One thing I can tell you is it seemed to cut a lot better with the regular blades than it does with the mulching blades. The difference is I’ve got some places I have to mow with walls/fences on both sides and without the mulch kit it would RAIN grass all over me. It did fix that problem but if I didn’t feel like I had to have it, I wouldn’t.

Good luck.

I put a set of Copperhead blades on my 54" Hustler SD. After a few times mowing with them I took them off and put the original factory blades back on it. The factory blades do a better job on my ZTR.
