Well as the collecting has started......I was able to secure a 10yr Pappy, some EHT, Eagle Rare, Blantons and the list goes on......Guess I am making this an investment more than anything. Although the Balcones Bock is pretty good.....

I got lucky & I was able to snag a bottle of Blanton's. I took it to a buddy's house for him to open-up & share. Instead he got real excited & put it on the shelf above his bar as an addition to his collection. Then he pour us some Bulliet to drink!

I don't know about this bourbon collecting business. After a few drinks, I suggested that we get some goo-b-gone & peel open the paper seal, drink the Blanton, then fill the bottle with tea, re-seal & put it back on the shelf next to the Weller 10. He wouldn't go for it, I hope we'll get to drink it together someday. confused2

It's an investment for me.... I've got 3 bottles I could sell for $500-600 profit.

Geez peoples, really! Not drinking the bourbon to save it as an investment is akin to not banging your girlfriend to save her for her next boyfriend.

Do you invest in anything? Probably not if that’s what you equate my collecting to!! But to each his own.

10 yr Pappys that I bought for $100 sells for $500 on the secondary market.

It's insane what ORVW goes for on secondary. It's way overhyped. There are better tasting whiskeys sitting on shelves every day. The 15 and 20 PVW are good pours. 23 is good but absolutely ridiculous on the secondary market 15 is my preference.

I invest in Real Estate and people. I collect Pearl beer memorabilia among other things.

I've got a lock on a 15yr hopefully coming my way in Nov. but we will see. But yes it is crazy what these things go for... I am only collecting the ones that will go up in value like that, Blantons, Blood Oath, EHT, to name a few. I have a decent little collection going that is probably triple in value right now.

The 15 is really really good. I wouldn't pay secondary prices but if I could get one at retail I may have a hard time selling it.

I recently bought a Whistle Pig 15 that was 1 of 139 from that barrel. Most of the rest of the barrels were blended and cut to a different proof. If there was ever a bottle I should have left unopened it’s that one. I had one drink and hated it. It will be given to buddy of mine who likes good whiskey. If he doesn’t like it I’ll likely send it to a member here who I know is a Whistle Pig fan.

Just curious , what type of return are you expecting if 3X to 5X isn’t enough?

I hope this doesn’t turn out like cabbage patch dolls and emus did for so many.
If so, at least there will be good whisky to drink afterwards.

I've tried the Gold and it's not worse. Pretty good actually. Klappenbach still won't tell me how or where he found it. He'll pour me a drink, put the cork back and then smugly move the bottle way from me.

Blanton's Gold had been only available to buy oversees, but they are about to start releasing it once a year in the U.S. each summer.

Blanton's Gold US Release

For everybody sitting on Blanton's as an investment, you are going to be sorely disappointed if you keep it more than 4-5 years from now. I listened to an interview with the Buffalo Trace Master Distiller, Harlen Wheatley, and he stated that since the bourbon boom hit, they have tripled production of such allocated items as Blantons, EHT products, Weller products, Elmer T. Lee, Rock Hill Farms, etc. and their should be much more available to consumers in the next few years.

How did Klappenbach get it from overseas?
