Finally had time to build a new base for the blacktail. Have had this idea for a pedestal for a couple years, just never got around to doing it. While sitting at home during this crazy virus crap, it was time to get after it.
The fun part of this project was making the worm holes, then taking the hatchet, grinder, hammer and other tools to distress and make everything look old and worn. The two fence post and the post in the display were just 2, 2x4’s glued together. Ran through the table saw and then beat up to give an old fence post look.
The barbed wire came from an old, downed fence on the corner of our property. The rusted, pitted wire helped bring out the look I was hoping for.

There is around $200 in material with the wood, plexiglass, light, stain, and finish. The labor cost of distressing the wood, building and finishing would start getting pretty high. I talked to my cabinet guy today on one of our jobs and asked what he’d charge to do one. He said probably around $500 and that would be a built, distressed pedestal without stain and finish, and no habitat.
