Is anyone loading the 40gr Berger on coyotes? I am shooting the 35gr Berger. I like the job they do on coyotes and cats. I use the 39gr bking on armadillos. But wanting to try the 40gr Berger hp on coyotes. Too see if it would make any difference from 35gr to 40gr. My rifle is a 1@10 twist.

I used the 40 gr Nosler BT in my 223, and it was a death ray on coyotes. Dropped em like a bag of wet sand.

I shot the 40 gr Berger from both the 204 and the 20 Tactical for a while. I switched to the 35 gr then tried the 39 Sierra but none were completely reliable on coyotes. Last two bullets I used were the 39 gr Speer and the 40 Nosler but didn’t shoot enough coyotes to really say they could be counted on to put down coyotes with authority all the time.
I loved the 20 caliber for bobcats and prairie dogs but for the big coyotes In certain areas I hunt them in it’s not enough.
Don’t misunderstand ,the 20 caliber will do fine most of the time and I shot a bunch with mine but over time too many runners spinners etc and I went to the 6x45 for coyotes.

That was back when I would shoot over a 100 every fall / winter but these days I barely kill half that number and when I am serious these days I carry the 22 Creedmoor.

Carried a 204 for one year and killed over 40 yotes but like you it just didn't bring enough to the party, went back to the 243 running light bullets 70 and under. What I did like about the 204 was how many running shots I made with it, it gets there fast!

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I been using the 35gr Berger for last 5+ yrs. No running so far. I hunt wide open bean fields to hay fields to the woods. I was using 39gr bking made a big hole in fur. I even hunt with friends has coyote hounds. I know sooner later I will have a runner. I didnt know if the 40gr would make any difference.
