Steel, medical supplies, medicine, some high tech manufacturing. I'm not saying we need 100% or all those markets, but we should have less dependency for sure. Even just 25% repatriation on some key industries would make a big difference.

China is the 2nd largest consumer market in the world on it's way to being number one in the next year or two. They don't want to lose our markets and we don't want to lose theirs. Seems like that could put us at a disadvantage or put US companies that depend on that market at a disadvantage. There might be a way to do without them but I don't think it can happen all at once. We don't need another economic pandemic right now.

Oil workers need China. China’s Oil Demand Rebounds To Pre-Coronavirus Levels https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Chinas-Oil-Demand-Rebounds-To-Pre-Coronavirus-Levels.html“ Oil demand in the world’s top oil importer, China, has rebounded to pre-coronavirus levels, Bloomberg reported on Monday, citing sources with inside knowledge of China’s energy sector. China was the first to go into lockdown after the COVID-19 virus emerged in Wuhan, but it was also the first country to exit lockdown. Demand for oil and fuels has been rising over the past month as people return to commuting to work, preferring their own vehicles to public transportation. According to Bloomberg’s sources, China’s gasoline and diesel consumption are already back to the pre-virus levels—a bullish sign for the oil market, which is looking at China for clues about when demand in the rest of the world could return to some form of normality. ”

Sure.
Lets pizz off the entire World and lets see if they will still buy American. Works both ways. We need our exports more than our imports. Its starts about US not going to Wallmart no more, but we all are anyway, and actually now more than ever. Anyone thinking we can be 100% self sustained, depending on NOBODY outside of the US lives in la la land. Start bringing Apple and Tesla back from China, but there is too much money on the line...
Average hourly wage in China $4 Average hourly wage in Taiwan $5 Average hourly wage in USA $27
On a side note, nobody is ever talking about the real eldorado “Taiwan” for decades.

Amazing the tricks they use to make you believe its made here. “Engineered in the USA” “Assembled in the USA” “Designed in the USA” Department of Commerce having a field day trying to calculate the “minimum 50% US made” prior to any export counseling.

They do the same Chet with beef! I forget how they phrase it.
Found it, “Product of the U.S.A.”....... they import beef then slap that label on it.

Under the current rules, beef and pork products that are shipped to the United States and processed further here, can be labeled “product of U.S.A.,” even if the animal was raised a continent away. That means a steer slaughtered in Uruguay and broken down into steaks at a meatpacking plant in Colorado is technically American meat—even if it isn’t.
