As I grow older, mid 70s, I have somewhat lost my balance. I use a cane when I might a little help. Most of my hunting is in the hill country. As most of you know it can be rocky and rough. Although, at this time, I don't need a walker, normally, I am now considering one, for hunting I've never really used one. I don't plan on going on any long range treks, but sometimes from truck to stand might be 100-200yds. Any suggestions? If you know of one on Amazon, it would help. thanks in advance capt david

I have used a walker with wheels for almost 20 years. The Nova brand has one with wider wheels, about an inch wide that work a lot better on dirt and rocks than the skinny wheels. Not sure of the model name, but I think it is the Cruiser.

As long as the truck don't move or open any doors they don't pay much attention. I don't know if that type of set up is possible in your area.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I don't have any recommendations but good for you for continuing to follow your passions despite a minor mobility setback.

Brother, I hope I have the same passion when I get into my seventies and eighties as you do. I think you could buy yourself a 4 wheeler and add a good back support and then get a mono pod that can attach to you rifle. This should allow you to access most places and hunt from the bike without trying to negotiate rough terrain that can be a tripping hazard. They also have attachments for 4 wheeler's that will load you deer up and it takes minimal effort on your part! A good side by side is another option. I think stand hunting is over rated anyway and with the wind in your favor and minimal movement, you can take any buck out there ! Good luck sir !

My Dad hunted into his early 80’s. He killed his lifetime buck when he was 82. He hunted from his truck or from a ground blind I made for him. He rode an ATV to and from the ground blind. We had to have a family intervention to make him quit climbing tree stands. He lived to hunt.
So, the OP could hunt from his truck, a size by side, or electric Bad Boy style sxs. I’m 72 these days, and I do think about how to load deer in or on a vehicle in the future. Right now, I just drag em behind the 4wheeler, and that’ll probably be the way, since I live where I hunt, but that doesn’t work for everybody.

I am 74 and I sure wish I could find a deer/hog loader to fit on the back of my UTV. one that I can assemble if/when I need it & attach it to the tow hitch. All I have seen are built as one piece and are too heavy for me to handle alone.

I can't stand or walk very far because of pain, but I struggle, and I could probably force myself to walk 100 yards, but it would be a painful workout using my cane. I have a walker with large wheels that I could use, but I've found that hunting from my truck is way better than struggling to get to a blind. I've been hunting from my truck and taking deer for the last 7 or 8 years now. As mentioned, the deer don't pay much attention if you park off to the side of your shooting lane or sendero and don't open doors. I have them regularly walk up to my truck if I feed corn on the road, and I had a small buck walk up and sniff my tailgate because I spilled corn in the bed. One blind I cleared a spot about 20 yards behind my blind where I can drive my truck into, and hide it behind the blind and walk the short distance and get into the blind. If I shoot a deer I make sure the shot will anchor it where I can drive up to the deer and load it up. How I load it is another story!

Regarding walkers - get one with the seat in the middle. You can hunt anywhere! The last one we bought for my mom, that's almost new under our stairs, is a Hugo Elite Edition. My wife says she's gonna make her dad take it, but I doubt she'll have any success with that insanely stubborn old man.

my FIL had one of the little handicap mobility electric scooters and a swing away lift, crane like device that mounted in the back corner of his truck. He could load and unload the scooter easily and get around pretty good if the ground was somewhat smooth. I believe he got that thru the VA.
I am kicking myself for not taking that lift out of his truck and putting in the bed of my Kubota RTV or the bed of my truck for loading heavier items.

All my fellow aging outdoors men at 72 I am praying God takes me before the pain of siting out a single season, been doing this since 1960 and never nurtured any other passion. I'd rather hunt new areas up yonder with my Dad and uncles who introduced me to this fantastic hobby before I sit home and watch TV. I'm sure they've been scouting waiting my arrival. Do everything you can to continue your passion. I know I'll crawl to my stand if that's what it takes

I am 84 and still walk to and climb in my blinds. I do not do it as near as fast as 20 years ago .My problem is lifting...I can no longer lift a 50 pound sack of corn to dump in a 10' high feeder, so I use Home Depot orange buckets and make several more trips up the ladder.. Loading is another issue, so I made a ramp and winch set up to slide a deer kill into the bed of a pickup. My wife uses a walker and I cannot see how that would work very well in hill country soil with rocks everywhere. Thank goodness for young able grandsons who love to hunt.

I haven’t yet had to get inventive on loading deer and hogs, but I do have an idea. Since I have that Kubota RTV, which has a rigid tubular steel roof frame, I’m thinking that mounting an electric winch on the top rear would allow me to dump the trailer, drop the tailgate, and winch the critter right into the steel bed. That should work...I think. Wouldn’t take any physical effort on my part.

I'm 77 and can still do a lot of the heavy stuff but I pay for it afterwards.
My biggest problem is trying to hold my rifle steady enough to hit what I aim at. I think I may be recoil sensitive/flinching since I have no problem with a 22 and no powder Colibri ammo. I have a 100 yd range on my place South of Bowie. I shot a 30-06 and two 6.5 Creed's a week ago and, from a rest, watched the target moving around. I have a lot of work to do on it and not real sure what the answer will be.
I have shot and didn't recover 2 bucks in the last 2 years. I hate that.

Dave are you drinking a lot of coffee, caffeine, or cokes when hunting. Hate to hear that.
To the OP be very careful if you use a walker. Rocks, Holes, soft soil, can ruin your day. Also you can only go uphill and downhill safely. No going across incline or you will tip over. Look for the biggest diameter and width wheels you can get. GL

James, other than some early morning coffee, I don’t do caffeine. I was shooting off a home made rest and will use a different kind next time. It could be recoil sensitivity that has developedas I’ve aged.
Gotta find out.

Good luck with it Dave. Get some extra padding on your shirts and jackets and maybe a recoil pad for gun. Maybe some reduced loads? As we get older thing hurt a little longer!!!

Men plan. God laughs. same with me but the 10 point swamp buck I shot season of 2018 was a brute (194 lb live weight) and I wasn't into bear hugging to get loaded. I had 2 small ratchet straps, backed my RTV up and dropped the tailgate, slid the ratchet straps under the belly (one just in front of hind legs, other just behind the front legs) with legs pointed away from the bed, hydraulic tilted the bed up, attached the ratchet straps in the bed, pulled them tight and ratcheted to pretty tight. I then dropped the bed down and all I had to do was roll the legs over into the bed & close the tailgate ... he was loaded without too much effort.

Dave not sure about the 6.5 but I know the 06 and they will make you a bit squimish. Get your self a 243 or the like and get away from that recoil. The deer will be dead with this rifle and you can shoot all day with no impact. Loosing the deer is not a realistic result.

Creed, good idea. However, I'm going to try it with my Grandsons Remington 222
