A recent thread on long range shooting fees had some pretty steep fees. I should have mentioned Fossil Pointe near Decatur. $35.00, targets out to 800 yards. I've been many times to shoot clays and used their first range which goes to 200 for $20.00. It's a great facility. If you go to shoot rifle, don't leave without driving up to the main lodge where they do all the events for clays. Impressive.

In the DFW area, I like ETTS. Reasonable price, EXCELLENT facility for handgun (individual bays on a first come first serve basis), rifle (steel out to 1200ish), or tactical shotgun. Triple C is also phenomenal for ELR shooting, they have steel out to 2000 meters, but its a little more pricey.

What's the fee?

After the $75 one time fee, looks like their membership is $500 annually. $40/month is pretty good, especially if you go twice a month, or even more. Seems like a pretty good deal for the guy that shoots often. I am not affiliated with them, nor have I been there.

Graham has a really nice range on the other side of the lake. I was a member there for a few years and shot a lot of their benchrest monthly matches...even back in the days where they shot steel and clays versus the paper they are shooting now.

It actually is an old silhouette club so a lot of their distances are actually meters and not yards. They have a 100y and a 400y but the rest are meters 200m, 300m and 500m. Plus, they’ve got a reloading room, pretty nice benches and a great facility.

It’s a long way from me and I don’t shoot paper matches...hell this year I’m not shooting any matches.

I hear there’s a nice 70 acre range in Wolfe City...

Avoid? That's a little harsh if you're just judging them on price. Not a whole lot of 1500 yard ranges with all their features. I have no affiliation and have never been there but their setup seems pretty nice.

Anyone used the long range set up at Fossil Pointe? I know the rest of their facility is great but only seen some pic's of the long range set up on their site. For $35.00 it seems to be the area winner.

I'd give a positive nod to American Shooting Center in Houston. It's like $18 for entry with one gun and like $8 per additional gun. Which is always a little dumb but whatever.

They have up to 600 yards. From 200 yards and higher it's self service, meaning u have bring everything u need and call your own cease fires. so on some lucky days I'd be alone so I could cease fire whenever I want. You have to qualify before being allowed to shoot past 300. Qualification is 5, maybe 3, shots within a 6" circle at 300 so simple enough.

The extra fee per gun is what I question. Carter Country is like that too. I don't live in Houston but have been to each of those once. Will never go back to CC. I just felt like I was being punished for shooting more guns.

Best of the West was great until it closed a little over a year ago, Long Range went to 1,000 yards and was $20 for 4 hours.
Copperhead Creek near Marble Falls is nice and has a little bit of everything. They charge $15/hr with a one time $50 qualification for long range.
Reveille Peak is a new range near Burnet that's $20/hr with $30 one time fee.

I'm fine with them charging per hour, because I can shoot 1 gun for 4 hours or 10 guns for 4 hours and pay the same amount. I don't like being punished for owning more guns. Doesn't feel very 2A friendly.

Sucks paying $35 to shoot an only okay 100 and 200yd range with paper targets you supply yourself.
The range is 100 and 200yd unless you’re a member. Membership is $750/yr, I believe.

if you bring 10- 20 guns to the range and enough ammo to last all day ( like I used to do many mil years ago )
they lose a potential sale to another shooter, especially if the range is very popular

charging fixed rate per hour is a better option (unlimited guns )

I have shot there many times it is a very nice range. You ar shooting off the top of a hill through the valley. They have a covered area for you to shoot under and it can be a tricky range to shoot at , the wind blows through that valley and you need to pay close attention but it is a lot of fun.
It is $35 for the day

Agreed. Time is money, not just for the range but for me too.

Ive been to ETTS several times, $ 35 for all day, you have to be a member to shoot in some of the areas, friendly and professional staff, and I haven't seen one screwball out there yet. Unlike some other places that Ive been to. They don't care how many guns you bring.

Incorrect. There are two benches up there you can use or you can bring your own .

$30 for a day pass if I remember correctly

I ran into the lack of targets once. Drove back up to the office and they said I was free to take from whatever bays I wanted and move things around as I saw fit. I guess that's sort of perfect for me- Id rather have to take 20 minutes and put targets where I want them and have free use than get yelled at for shooting more than 1 round a second at a paper target 15 yards in front of me. After that trip, I realized people "hoard" steel in the bay they are using and dont bother to spread it back out (I was guilty of doing the same that trip), but I bet I had 40-50 steel targets, dueling trees, plate rack, and texas stars to choose from to shoot at

The first time I was told “were having a match this weekend so we’ve got them all allocated for that. Sorry, there’s none available”. Seeing as they have matches almost every weekend, I figured that was the issue, and that’s be the answer, each time. There was some broken wooden stands for paper targets I rigged together so I didn’t waste my money and time. I now have a lease where I can shoot as far as I can imagine so I doubt I’ll give them another go but if I do, I’ll ask next time. They seemed like nice guys and it’s close to me so I’d like for it to work out.
