Wanted to see if there was anyone that does leather work in here? I’m really considering getting into it and was wanting to talk to someone first.

I looked that up whenever I was planning to try some of that stuff but half the sites were about lot lizard apparel...good luck on getting started in that craft!

Thank you. I’ve always been interested in it and being without work right now seems to be the right time to maybe give it a shot and see where it goes.

Look up Earnie in the classifieds. Here is a leather working forum. https://leatherworker.net/forum/?_fromLogin=1

Check if you have any of the old Tandy Leather stores in your area. If you do, check to see if they offer any basic classes. Hands n mentoring for the carving part is helpful.

Be very careful it is addicting as heck. Did it several years until I got too weak and shaky. Just like everything lately it got expensive. It's like reloading, very relaxing.

Who says there isn’t a market in selling to Lot Lizards?

Seriously it IS addicting. “You don’t want NO part of this S Dewey!” roflmao

Get your wallet out if you’re picky. If not, go to Hobby Lobby, buy the stupid bs kit they sell and go to town on a stupid bs pc of leather they sell as well.

Or just use it to practice a while till you get irritated and willing to spend enough $ to look legit. I’ve gotten lucky with some estate sale finds for cheap. They still irritate me with the final product. The good stuff costs $, plain and simple.

You get what ya pay for, there is NO way around it with leather stamping.

I wish I had just an ounce of artistic ability in my body - I don't. I know it can be a lucrative side gig if you're good at your craft - we've got a family friend who we had make some custom dog collars - at $90 a pop each...they are impressively good though.

I second the trip to a Tandy Leather. They have the tools you need and the knowledge to lead you in the right direction. No personal experience, mom took it up after she retired. From what I saw there’s a lot of money in custom purses, if you don’t mind dealing with customers who can’t make up there mind what they want to eat.

I 3rd the Tandy leather store.

I will say get plenty of practice scraps and keep playing. I was messing with borders a while back and came up with some awesome ones. Also did some free hand flames with my knife to check the sharpening of it. [Linked Image]

Even caught myself starting to make some of my own stamps for what I needed right then.

I don't have the patience for that.
