Hello all, I have posted a little bit on TFF, and recently am interested in hunting which is why I kept the same name from TFF. Does anyone go out to the Texas Hunting Land to the west of Granger by the primitive boat launch off the San Gabriel? I have been quite interested and wouldn't mind paying to go out there for some squirrels for pelts/meat but I have never been properly hunting. Could be a great way to start out but I will try to find someone to go with who knows more about the laws regarding regulations. This may not be the correct forum to ask in but if someone also might know the restrictions on fishing out there from the shore without the THL permit for hunting, that would be greatly appreciated. I left a voicemail for one of the Game Wardens for that area but I don't know how reliable they are at responding. I've tried contacting TPWD and they gave me the number for the GW and of course COE won't answer their phones without an epidemic going on so no response there. Any newbie help is welcome and again, appreciated Cheers, -KG

You need to get the Public Hunting permit and corresponding map booklet from TPWD. The APH permit will get you on a lot of WMA land, including Granger, and the book will give you info on seasons and limits (no season for squirrels if I remember correctly for this county). You'll also need a minimum amount of hunter orange, your Hunter's Education and TPWD Hunting License. Restrictions at Granger only allow shotguns and bows. Squirrels are present but not super plentiful, though this time of year they might be more active, you're now dealing with fully leafed-out trees to try and find them.

Yeah I did read the booklet online, which stated the hunter orange requirements and shotgun/bows no more than #2 shot for anything. I have my hunt ed card, and hunting license. No season for squirrels is correct.

Just sit down in the pecans around that boat launch and wait. They are everywhere.

I have heard the best way to find squirrels is to literally just sit haha.
