Did something I hardly ever get to do and that is go fishing on a weekday. It wasn't the original plan but I didn't get to go this past weekend because of the wind and storms and today was so dang perfect I said Im taking half a day and going to the lake. Called Dad about 11am and said "get ready Im going fishing".

Just went right here by the house since it was so late in the day. Got the boat in the water at noon and headed for the dam to see if we could find some deep. Sure enough the first spot we hooked up and never had to move. Despite it being right in the middle of the day which is the worst time to try to catch just about anything, we made the most of it and probably caught 50ish in 3.5 hours before calling it quits so we could clean fish. We ended up bringing home 24 big Crappie and 4 monster Sandbass. Had several right at 10" but threw them back since most of the keepers were well north of 11" and I didn't really want to clean fish all night. Dang sure not the best day ever but for 3.5 hours of fishing in the middle of a blue bird sky day, I was extremely happy with the outcome!

Also while making our run south we came up on this sunk boat. We checked around for anyone that might need help but they were already gone I guess. Not sure what happened but my best guess is they were out there in the storms Saturday and got blown into the rocks and swamped the boat.

I don’t need a label to recognize what’s in the bag most of the time, provided it’s a meat I’m used to seeing.

Its mostly for the date so I know to eat the oldest ones first. I can look at a fillet and tell right away if its from a Sandbass or Crappie as well. The 4 Sandbass from todays trip are in the bowl above the 4 bags of Crappie and will get cooked tomorrow. If I threw them in with the bags of Crappie even Ray Charles could tell the difference.

Greta job. Crappie and flathead are the only freshwater fish I'll eat.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

That last pic will give me more nightmares, I have them regularly, seriously, I think I had one last night. I look over, water coming in boat, and water just about to come over transom, if I move closer to transom or my dog jumps that way, I'm doomed. Its scary, my boat will not float. Not a big deal summer time fishing but winter duck hunting it haunts me.

JCB, nice haul been watching you catch'em for years. up

Quail hunting is like walking into, and out of a beautiful painting all day long. Gene Hill
