Which one of these Texas ranches would you take if offered to have unlimited access to hunt for free?

I would have to say the King Ranch for the wildlife and the history.

That's a tough question to answer given the list to choose from. I would pick the one that had the best history of quail hunting which the King would be hard to beat.

I’d pick the one that he’d the most quail on it that year.

I'd pick the 06. They have some huge elk on that place, plus the scenery is awesome.

The King Ranch has some amazing animals. I'm on it almost 5 days a week. Mostly the northern divisions, but make it to the southern end fairly often.

Brewster Ranches, O6 and Longfellow in that order. Mule deer, elk,
auadad, and Big Horns . Fourth would be King

King Ranch. I have only killed turkey and pigs there, but that ranch grows the biggest LF deer I've ever seen, and some great Nilgai. Have seen some brutes on the O'Conner too, but no permission to hunt.

Kind of a broad question as only some of those ranches are contiguous

King ranch is broken up into several different pastures and some are quite a distance apart. The Santa Gertudis has to be 40 miles from the Norias.

Same goes for Briscoe, Hughes and Nunley. I know both Briscoe and Hughes have ranches all over the state, I think the same holds true for the O’Connor.


If I could only pick one, it would be the 06’ ranch followed by the Longfellow.

Should have put Brad Kelly’s West Texas ranch up there as well, it’s 420,000 acres with the vast majority all in one piece.

That would be my pick to hunt

Quail, special deer, nilgai, other exotics, hogs, turkeys, excellent bay fishing & more - hard to beat the King and its four divisions - Laureles, Santa Gertrudis, Encino and Norias.

I'd pick the Chaparrosa or the one of the pastures of the old Chittum in Maverick County! I believe the Chittum is part of the Nunley you have listed above but not completely sure. I just know that this small area of the state there are probably more 170+ deer killed per square mile than any other low fence area of the state.

I hunted Watt's ranch for 6years had 3 pastures, Mo, MK and the Gober. Very neat place with a ton of history. You can see a bunch of it at the Bee Hive in Albany.

Of those ranches I'd hunt the Waggoner. There are cattle out there that have never seen a human. Foreman shot a 198" in 2004 . It was first place that year in the region nocked me to 4th with a 190". Some really good whitetail shot that year. My 190" was shot on the Buckle L not the Lambshead.

I've always wanted to hunt the King Ranch for the history of it. Seems that it's changed a bit in recent years

I could wear two months out and couple sets of boots and swaro’s covering that country.

Sept chasing elk, come back mid dec and stay Mid Jan chasing Mulie’s, bighorn and Aoudad just be target of opportunity. Then, call a houndsman and go run lions.

The original Chittim ranch was 250,000 acres but has been split up over the years.
