Looking at getting a detached garage/shop/barn type steel building. Nothing too fancy - one roll up door and one walk through most likely. Looking at 20’ x 30’ with a concrete pad.

Any rough idea on costs? I will be getting bids, but wanted to see if anyone has gotten one recently for a ballpark.

And anything I should be careful of, add, etc.?

Bare bones before any utilities, you will be in the $20.00/sqft range.

Idk where you are at. But I'd think that 20 a foot is a bit low. I'd budget 27 concrete building doors insulation.

May get it to 25 but I'd be real shocked if you got a quality foundation and a clear span I beam building for 20.

We are $45,000 into this one. 30x40x14 with 4:12 roof and 10 foot porch. Slab is 4000 psi concrete 5 inches thick with 12x24 beams. 3 12x12 roll up door, 1 walk through.

Foam, electrical, driveway will be done in next 2 weeks. All said, we will be a little over $60,000 total.

It probably has a lot to do with location. My last one came in at $20.88/ft. That is 48'x60'x16' walls , two 14' overhead doors, one 12' overhead door, 6" 4000 psi concrete with perimeter beam and beams every 25', closed cell spray insulation. I did do all the site work myself, and had the steel on site for them.

How long ago was that? My builder said prices have increased almost 150% in the last 2-3 years. Not just steel prices, but concrete also.

BTW, your building looks great, the colors work well.

Be sure you're using a reputable builder. Lots of FB "builders" running scams.

$28.00 to $30.00 with roll up doors, a few windows, rolled insulation and no electric is a safe budget. BigPigs is in the higher priced level but his options and quality level justify the price. Plus his lot wasn’t the easiest to build in access wise.
And yes, I build buildings a lot, around 15-20 a year. Pricing is going up weekly/monthly from suppliers as this virus crap ends and economy comes back.

If a man is going to build one and has the funds, do it now.

Damn nice build.

I’d love to have that set up on my lot.

Insulation is in. 1 inch closed cell on the walls and 2 inches on the roof. I will be painting the insulation’s this week to prevent it from discoloring and failing due to UV light.

Driveway is also in, no I didn’t do concrete because another $20-$25k wasn’t justifiable. The rock went in WHITE but after a rain cleaned it, it turned a nice color that compliments the house and shop. That’s roughly 66 yards and will have another 15-20 spread over this.

Thank you, lots of time was spent driving around to find the right colors.

Walls are Taupe from Central State Manufacturing and roof, doors, and trim is Burnished Slate from Mueller
