Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and have some general questions about hog hunting. I've never hunted before but I plan on starting soon, and I've decided to start hunting hogs on public land. Eventually, I'd like to only consume meat from animals I've killed so that's the end goal but there's a hole lot to learn between now and then which is why I joined the forum. I'm in the ETX area and looking at hunting hogs in the Sabine bottom. I wanna make sure I do my home work on everything before I start going out and hunting on public lands so I have a few questions that hopefully maybe someone can help me with. I understand that hogs can be hunted year round, but I'm a little confused by the Sabine bottoms website. I can't figure out if I can hunt hogs with a firearm year round or if it's limited to certain time periods. Sorry if this is really obvious but I'm totally new to this so please bare with me.

Almost all public land has pig hunting open during deer season only.

Best bet is to call local game warden if you have a question

Info is all on that document. Year round ok for archery. Shotgun slug or buckshot in certain date ranges only. Rifles legal during described dates. No night hunting, no dogs. WMA closed on listed dates.

Honestly, if your long-term goal is to feed yourself (and family) from animals you hunt, you may want to invest in a lease. In general, public lands in TX offer hunting opportunities but can be heavily pressured and restrictive.

You may become a vegetarian.

Never had a problem finding hogs, the work began win one twas down
No gutting, back straps & quarters iin a back pack, worked best for me...

Can be some of the best hunting around, crea bottoms, switch cain, paledow plants, downed trees, tall grass.
Limited hunting preasure surounded by 24-7-365 hog hunting. .
