I know there is a wait and $200.00 to the Feds, but that's it. Who, what, where, when, and how do I start the process? Thanks.

Pick out a can from a dealer. Pay for the can and complete the form 4. Send all the information (form 4, prints, etc) to the NFA. Wait until approved. After the dealer get the approved form you can pick up your can.
Silencershop has a kiosk that helps make it easy and many stores use the kiosk.

My only recommendation is to go with a reputable company and do your research. Lately there has been some big issues with Q and Crux. I have a SilencerCo Omega 300, I’m very happy with it given its size/weight/cost/sound.

For the purposes of this conversation, Im going to say there are two ways to purchase a supressor
1. Individual purchase. Pros- Cheapest (and usually fastest) route Cons- You and you alone are allowed to be in possession of said suppressor. You cant loan it to a family member or friends, and what happens to it when you die is a bit of a headache for your Executor
2. Trust Purchase Pros- Anyone listed as a trustee can possess it. Who is listed as a trustee is up to you. If done properly, it can set up a clear inheritance path that is very straightforward. Cons-Costs a little extra in legal fees to set up a trust, and every Trustee must go through the majority of the purchase process. It also takes longer to clear BATFE before you can take possession.
I'd highly recommend route #2, even if you don't have a particular person you want to add as a trustee, its nice to have the option to do so. If you go that route, the place to start is a lawyer to get the trust, then take it to your local NFA shop and make your purchase

Are you wanting to know more about suppressor's or the NFA process to obtain a suppressor? Very broad question with little mention about suppressor's other than topic.

Also, plan out how you will mount it on your rifle. And how you will mount it in your other rifles. I went direct thread 5/8x24” on everything. I have about 5 or 6 rifles I interchange one 30 cal can. My 223 can has 1/2” threading on everything else. If you go with a proprietary mount, you may need that on other rifles, which can get expensive.

To the OP, I took possession of my first can a few months ago. I asked lots of questions as you are, which is good, but i did pick up the phone and call the guys at silencershop to walk me through the process. They are good ol' Texas guys and will help you understand exactly how things work. I bought mine through them, went down to a local dealer here that has a silencershop kiosk which allows you to do paperwork, fingerprints, pictures, etc and finish up the whole process in about 30 minutes. They will answer any question you have.

I say buy from a local dealer or go to gun broker and buy one on there and have it transferred to a local dealer will save you money and cut out the middle man of silencer shop ( I used them for the first can I bought and had a few issues), you can to go to your local law enforcement agency, indentago, or you can do your fingerprints yourself and Walgreens can do the passport picture. I recommend the trust route since you want your wife to be able to use it as well. I used Texas lawshield they are great people and always helpful when I’m adding items. There’s some great deals on gunbroker I bought I silencerco sparrow a few weeks ago for over 50% off!

Definitely purchase through Silencer Shop if you can. They've ironed out a lot of wrinkles in the process, and they're still ironing.

I own quite a few and have got to test most of the good ones on the market. Some things I have learned over the years and have this discussion often with friends I would say get something midsized in 30 caliber with a taper mount setup and on the lighter side of things Assuming the same size can, they all sound about the same and all are a LOT quieter than no can! so, don't get to hung up on DB reduction "claims" Silencers usually come in short 6' , mid 7.5" and full length 9" Longer ones are a tad bit quieter, can't beat physics, but they are also a bit heavier and more prone to hitting the side of a blind, harder getting in and out of vehicles, etc.. Shorter ones are exactly the opposite, lighter, more manueverable but a bit louder.. Hence the mid size recommendation.. since this is a hunting forum. If you are going to use strictly on the bench shooting long range, go long, why not? 30 cal means you can run on a 308, 7mag, 6.5 Creedmoor or an AR15 with the right mounts Taper mount means consistent lockup and thus consistent accuracy and point of impact. I don't like mounts with any latches, springs, etc.. more stuff to break and looser tolerances means potential for point of impact shifts https://www.silencershop.com/how-to-buy-a-silencer
