I’m building a rifle for my wife and I just got a die set, Hornady 143 ELD X Bullets, and gathering some brass. Curious what powder one might suggest to get the best bang from this set up. Thanks in advance.

I used H4350 for my brother’s 6.5 CM. I use R17 for my 260. As for my brother’s rifle, a Bergara, I don’t know if it was the barrel, the powder, or my reloading skills, but it was sure easy to find a great load.

RL 17 was the first I tried. Haven't needed to experiment beyond that.

With that particular bullet I've used H4350, RL16 (my favorite), RL17, and IMR4451. All produced great accuracy, RL16 really stood out with the accuracy/velocity combo.

H-4350 is always the first answer for 6.5 Creedmoor
Anything other than H-4350 is a substitute because you couldn't get H-4350.

IMR 4451 is a good substitute for H4350 since H4350 can be difficult to find.

Anything other than H-4350 is a substitute because you couldn't get H-4350. And once you try RL16 you'll forget why you were looking for H4350 in the first place. Even better is a 147ELDM/RL26 combo @ 2710fps, but that's another story.

I've been using H4350 and been getting very good speed and stellar accuracy. I run 140 ELD-M at 2775 fps out of a factory Tikka barrel, and Tikkas are known for being slow.

H4350 will do anything you need. But Anything up or down in the area of the burn rate of H4350 will do fine. There are many good options.

Spent a couple of days at Hodnett's prarie dog shooting ground (my buddie's place) in the middle of a 350 acre prarie dog town shooting in 95* weather......no problemo. As you well know, all powders are temp sensitive, but some more than others. RL16 appears to be exceptionally stable though.

I even went to two of the IMR Enduron powders, one of those is not to be found right now either.

I don't load for a creed, but in that cartridge size and heavy for call, H4350, IMR 4451, and Staball all look to be good temp stable options from browsing a bunch of load data.

That's good news. Hodgdon going out of stock constantly got old long ago. I even went to two of the IMR Enduron powders, one of those is not to be found right now either. It's very frustrating for sure, and to be perfectly honest, since H4350 was nowhere to be found back when, that's is why I tried RL16 and I4451 in the first place. Now you can't find RL16.......

I originally tried R17 because I couldn’t find H4350. I won’t be changing now.

If you go with R17, it is one of the most aggressive double based powders. It will provide the very high speeds, but the trade off is being very temp sensitive. For this reason, I won't use it. But if you want to go Ricky Bobby, it will certainly do it.

Thanks for the replies. I’ve got access to some R16 and picked up some H-4350. Will report back as test these.
