Nothing better than a new calf and a good rain.

I do enjoy watching the calves run and play, but otherwise I'd just as soon not see any cows when I'm at the lease. Destructive critters that they are!

Great Pics!!!!
I love when the calving starts as well...….except when I have heifers getting ready to be first time mommas.
Do you try and have them calve about now? I like mine in December so that they wean on good spring/early summer grass.
High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

I've been dodging the little farts for a month or so, they all want to chase the truck.
Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

I remember when we were kids and would ride on the boxblade through the pasture counting calves while the old man drove us around.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

Had a bull go bad with this bunch year before last so I'm just now getting the calving window narrowed down to where it's not stretched out all year. I calved heifers when I was a young man, I'm too old for that headache now.

I am not a spring chicken anymore myself and value a good night's rest more than ever and that doesn't happen with a pen of heifers ready to pop. lol But, I'm must be a glutton for punishment because last night we worked mine and did my aunt's little herd and she had 3 pretty little black heifers I managed to put my name on again. We are heading out in the morning to my daughter and SIL's place in Baylor County to help with their spring works. My grandson graduates high school tomorrow and we will work cattle Saturday. At my age and with the kids as busy as they are, this may be my last chance to saddle up and work horseback with him and my granddaughter. I may be so stove up when I get back home, I have to take a personal day but I wouldn't miss this for the world.
