The child bride wanted to put the top down, fire up her pony, and go for an outing. We ended up at Mary’s Cafe and ordered chicken fried steak (it was “YUGE!”) with okra, mashed, and all the fixin’s. A full quart of gravy. Oh, my, soul that was good.

Got a favorite gravy destination?

Mary's would be my destination for a nice drive in the country (if you avoid I-20). She is famous for BIG food portions.

That would be putting an equal Part of flour in your crumbles, borrowing it, then adding whole milk.

I like it with bacon grease. Flour, whole milk. Salt and pepper. Grandma’s is the best. Babes is pretty good too.

Mary’s gravy is excellent. Her queso is not. Enjoyed my meal and experience there.

ROFL!

Yup, Married to the child bride 40 years and counting.
She shall never grow old (or up)...

And after forty years of marital bliss she still can’t make gravy worth a biscuit!

But can she make biscuits?

Best gravy at a commercial source we ever had was at the MR Burger in Ruidoso, Their gravy with their fry bread was a meal and dessert in one. New owners came along, it was good, but not the same.

That’s how I do it... get some good 80/20 so when I brown it up there is plenty of grease. Push the meat all to one side of the skillet and brown the flour till it makes that perfect smell. Then add the milk... I’ve even used half and half before. Cant forget the home made buttermilk biscuits and smother them with it. It’s one of my families favorite meals I make. Yum!

I learned from my grandfather. I'd eat his biscuits and gravy for every meal.

On the economy, I do love Chicken Express gravy and their tenders. Golden Chick ain't far behind, if at all. food
