Is it sweet corn bread or the nasty no taste corn bread you Texans call cornbread?
Lol. I take my cornbread with butter. No need to put beans with it. Simply don’t understand the no taste corn bread, what’s the point of it? Sop up the soup and make nasty dull tasting mush....nasty

Ranch style beans - look up the thread in the recipe forum, some great ideas there

Lol. I take my cornbread with butter. No need to put beans with it. Simply don’t understand the no taste corn bread, what’s the point of it? Sop up the soup and make nasty dull tasting mush....nasty Ours is slightly sweet jalapeno cheese cornbread most of the time....do not understand this "no taste corn bread you Texans call cornbread" you speak of....the food up there is bland and tasteless... I lived in NE Ohio for seven years and had to educate them good Texan cousin....every March 2nd "we" celebrated Texas Independence Day at work. We made chili, jalapeno soup, brisket, beans, and jalapeno cornbread.. They were very sad when we moved back to Texas....Jes sayin....

Buckey from Ohio......I bet you make a puddle in your mashed potatoes and put meatloaf or pork, or whatever.....in the puddle. No salt, no pepper, no flavor... I about had a heart attack the first year we were up there... They had a rib "cook-off" at work between departments so I signed up....they were providing the meat so it would be "fair" The morning of I show up and they pull my ribs out of a big pot of boiling water basically 3/4 done with any fat cooked out of them.... All they do is slather BBQ sauce on boiled meat....I lost my friggin mind.....

We used our basic cornbread mix (with sugar) and added onion and japs yesterday to make hush puppies with the catfish fillets. I was rocking two cast iron skillets at a time. We had not had real hush puppies in years and we thoroughly enjoyed them.

No one has mentioned cornbread and buttermilk....my parents could make a meal on that but I never could get a taste for that. I think that may be a generational thing.
The sweet corn bread with fresh black-eyed peas would be my choice. Plain corn bread is pretty boring.
