Somebody school me on electric golf carts. I'm intrigued by the quiet ride. It seems there are lots of aftermarket accessories for EZ Go and Club Car to make them a little more off road capable. Not looking for a rock crawler or mud bogger, just something to cruise around improved forest trails.

Are there some models better than others? What do I need to look out for?

We had on older (90s model ezgo) and it was great for what we used it for. My only recommendations would be a 48v cart when you have it loaded down with feed and find a model that has a locker available for it. Clay roads get slick quick when climbing hills

We have a 36v ez go. It’s been great, no lift and still have slick tires on it that came on it. Our place is pretty flat and not much mud. They are quiet but on a still morning you can hear them for a long ways too.

I had a good post on here about two years ago when I started building this one. Took me awhile to get it how I like it. But it's great for hunting now.

I have built a couple of golf carts and have had great luck with them. Built correctly they will handle hills and mud without a problem. Battery maintenance is the key to the performance of the cart. I now have a 2 wheel drive Bad Boy Instinct and love it it has 25” tires and will go anywhere I have wanted to go. Two years ago I bit the bullet and went Lithium and have enjoyed the not having to do the maintenance on the batteries. The key to electric carts is if you park it charge it if you are near power.

Best friend has an upgraded motor and control it will go 25mph, and has enough torque to out pull a Polaris, but has about an inch out suspension travel.

His only complaint is battery life is it good. About 4 years

I built one in 2013 for hunting, it has been great. Will haul 2 men and 600lb of feed, goes anywhere I need except real deep mud. And does it with less noise and smell. Heavily modified though. Like anything, you can't expect to drop $1,500 on a Craigslist Queen and hang with a UTV. But with upgrades to drivetrain and suspension they can be great hunting machines.







In my personal opinion, the best platform to build off of is an EZ Go TXT with a series motor. Tons of parts, simple drivetrain and electrical system. Steel frame makes it easy to fix if you crack it.

I've had a few, electric and gas, EZGO and Club Car. My current one is probably my favorite, it's a Club Car Carryall2 in electric. Upgraded motor, controller, and cables, and it goes where I tell it to. And it's dead quiet. It doesn't have the capability of a SxS, but it'll haul corn, firewood, and fat fellers all around my place. Anything more than that and I'll break out the ATV.

Those are some of the ones that come from the factory with a tilting pickup bed and heavier duty suspension.

Very nice setup. Those seem to be a little harder to find, but worth keeping an eye out for.

No this one is a Club Car DS. Aluminum frame. Lighter, but trickier to fix as I'm not setup to weld aluminum.

48V TXT. raised. 500 amp controller, HD solenoid and FNR switch. Updated cables. Limited slip diff. Stock motor. I abuse it like a government mule and it takes it all.

Very nice. Did you do the electrical upgrades yourself? They seem pretty straightforward.

I have a1989 EZGO that I rebuilt. I ripped out all the guts, installed a 500 amp digital controller, HD solenoid and HD F&R switch, 2g battery cables and a new high torgue motor. When these batteries run down im going to bump from 36v to 48v. Everything I installed will work on both 36v and 48 v so all it will take is the extra batteries and extra battery cable. I take it through mud and creeks with water over the floorboards with no issues. I accidently sunk it in a deep creek once, completely submerged, towed it out, let it dry and didn't have any issues. I did the upgraded myself which was very easy and I bought the upgrade as a complete kit from Cartsunlimited.com

1998 EZ Go TXT has lift kit, HD FnR, upgraded battery cables, upgraded controller and converted from 36V to 48V. Love this thing, only pic I have on my phone. It’ll haul the family and corn no issues with a drop down back seat.
