I drew Mule Deer (31 muzzleloader).

Bobo, I had 37 as a second choice (technically an accident because I meant for that to be my first choice, been trying to get the MZ tag there for 3 years).

I have hunted 37 for elk and turkeys a couple times, I could point you in a couple spots to check out.

I might hit you up, Buddy lives in Capitan and he specifically told me 37. Hunted 36 last year in sept had a really tough hunt but did get on some really good deer( and stud bulls messing around)

Damn Elk tag is killing me.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I drew 2B Mule Deer muzzleloader, pretty stoked to use my remington ultimate some more I had it shooting a nice group at 400yds last time I shot it, I'm sure it will be hot in late Sept. But none of the other dates lined up well with my schedule so went after the muzzleloader it extends my hunting season if I draw in other states. I have a private land hunt in SE Colorado and put in for Kansas too. Looking for that magical 200" deer!

Sept.

I acquired a little tract of land that is surrounded by national forest in that unit southeast of Cloudcroft, before all this Covid stuff started I had dreamed I would put up a little makeshift basecamp there and could walk out from my Trailer and start hunting so I put in for elk and deer hoping to draw an elk tag.

I am gonna wait for my Colorado draw results to come back, if I draw a tag there i'll eat this one.

You know anything about that unit for deer? Online the reports look pretty grim

No I know the unit north well. Both tough units. I got on a solid 80 in 36 but in 10 days I only found three mature bucks not in town.

I drew sept on accident last year. The Jan hunts are a better hunt in my opinion

I was in the Cloudcroft area in December and January. We saw quite a few deer but the bucks were mainly big forkies. Occasionally a 3x3 or 4x4 would show up but they weren't spectacular. I saw a picture of a whopper of a buck a local guy took around timberon so there are some good ones around.

I think the 3x3’s and the 4x4 were more typical top end for the area.

From what I understand if a deer hits 140 there it’s a good one

You hit the lottery. I have hunted that unit many times in the past before you had to draw for it. I saw but not did not get the largest MD Buck I have ever seen in that unit.

Yes, hunted Jan ‘19 in unit 17, and then came back in sept ’19 and hunted 36.

I had 4 Mulie tags/hunts technically last year in three states.
