Love 'em. Used to pick them along the railroad tracks near the house as a kid. Always put some in sugar in the freezer to put on the Cheerios in the morning.

waiting for ours to ripen. We just started picking last year and making cobbler with them. I used to cut them down.

Used to pick them along the bayous in Houston as a kid. Watch out for snakes!

I prefer snozberries

Now that I no longer golf, I take my 1 Iron berry picking with me. Works better in that service than it ever did on the golf course (for me anyway).

They love it when you cut them down. It refreshes the patch. The vine grows the first year,it produces berries the second year,then dies. But the new vine growing beside it will produce berries next year. So you always have berries. After a while though the patch becomes a tangled mess of dead briars and should be cut to the ground. But don't worry,they'll grow back.

Nice. My plants in N.Texas have just blossomed; I'm expecting a bumper crop - plants are 6ft high and as big round as thumb!

Probably should take anything but a one iron. No one can hit anything with a one iron. Some people use them for lightning rods. Even lightning can't hit them.

The dewberries in my area seldom grow above knee high.

Mom made a helluva wine out of dewberries. Heck, with any berry and she picked them all. Raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, you name it.

They're actually 2 slightly different species. True dewberries stay pretty close to the ground and the berries aren't quite as big as a blackberry. Blackberry vines can get pretty big and the berries very large. You would be hard-pressed to tell the difference in taste between the two though. I've picked wild blackberries in GA,VA,TX and OK.

I still recall picking dew berries along the county road sides around my home town in central TX. Dad always warned us to watch for snakes. I always thought that the snakes liked the berries, but years later found out that mice like the berries and snakes like mice...

we have a bunch of dew berry vines around our house but they put on very small berries and not very many. I'll have to walk around later to see if any are starting ti turn ripe later today.
