This story starts about a year and a half ago in 2018 and I was hunting with my oldest daughter Jenna. It was a morning hunt and we have a pig at my "bow" feeder. I take a shot with my 30-06 and it drops under the feeder. At some point while we were packing up it vanishes. We get to the feeder and find a small speck of blood and follow a small blood trail for about 10 yards or so then nothing. We look around in the direction it headed but came up empty.

About a month later a hog shows up with the top part of it's neck missing. I verify it was the same pig based on other game cam pics and I have been after her ever since. Last year I was able to harvest a spotted boar that she had given birth to earlier that year but still hadn't laid eyes on her in person but she was still hanging around on my cams.

Fast forward to this weekend and I am back in the stand again with Jenna Saturday evening and a group of pigs show up at the "bow" feeder. I get setup and start trying to see if there is a big boar in the group. As I am looking around I spot a light colored sow and an indention in the back of her neck and am almost certain it is our sow. I steady my 6.8 and wait for another pig to get behind her in hopes for a double. After what seemed like forever finally another ones lines up and I send a 110gr Accubond her way. She drops instantly and the others scattered. I see another hog circle behind the feeder and stop so I quickly send another round and drop that one just past the feeder and then it's over.

We gather up our stuff and I tell Jenna I think that's our sow we have been after. We get to the first sow and she is still kicking so I put a finishing round in her with my pistol before checking on the other one by the feeder. I drag the smaller one to the bigger sow and start inspecting. When I first shot her she was almost a blonde color and now seemed almost grey. After looking her over I was positive it was her based on the dark spot on left side belly and a couple of dark spots on the right side in the same locations. We finally closed the chapter on this sow banana

We were also able to take out one of the larger boars on my hit list Thursday morning. This guy has been pretty consistent lately and is easy to identify with the lack of hair it has. Blood trail was pretty faint for about 15 to 20 yards and then the flood gates opened up and was an easy track. He made it about 50 yards.

That's awesome! It does also illustrate the limitations of the "behind the ear" shot. Hogs' spines dip drastically, so if you cheat even a couple inches behind the skull and high on a true broadside, you'll hit no bone and generally stun them, which results in them waking up and running off, probably to survive with a headache. Looks like fun times!

I enjoy our time together. It is a struggle getting Jenna out of bed in the mornings rofl and she usually wants to leave early if we aren't seeing much. She wanted to leave at like 7:30 Thursday morning and I told her we would leave at 8:30. Well that big boar didn't show up until about 8:20 so we would have missed out on him. rifle

As you can see she likes her beauty sleep roflmao

She isn't interested in shooting right now. She just likes seeing the animals and being with dad. I think the younger one will be the first to shoot something if I had to guess.
