Favorite locations any type of food, and favorite meal(s) from said establishment?

Hickory hollow used to have a great cfs but something has changed.
Mel’s country cafe in tomball makes a good cfs and is our go to recently.

Wife and I always loved Lamonte’s Italian restaurant at Hwy 6 and I-45. They have a chopped salad that’s terrific, and they have stuffed artichokes. When we retired and left Houston, the lady owner gave my wife the recipe. The owner divorced her husband, but kept the tiny little Italian Mother in Law, who gave her all the terrific recipes.

Sushi and seafood at the Redfish Grill on 249 and Cypresswood.

Mexican food at Rudy’s on Grant Road. You can get good Mexican food in many places, but we really liked Rudy’s.

Burgers at Beck’s Prime.

Calamari at Perry’s Steakhouse. Decent steaks, but the calamari is special.

Salad at the Black Walnut in the Woodlands.

Papadeaux’s for seafood.

Doesn’t mean that they are the absolute best, but it’s where we liked to eat.

I like tads just south of Katy on on 1463. I mostly go out for Mexican food.

Sounds like you were close to where I grew up. Sadly it seems the redfish grill changed ownership or something a couple years ago. It’s still good, but not what it used to be.

I haven't been there yet, but it's on my bucket list. I saw a food show on TV about it. It's the Turkey Leg Hut in Houston and they have some wild twists on a turkey leg.

Bluewater Seafood on 1960. A true dive but outstanding food.

Been wanting to go there, but with the construction going on over there make's it hard to want to even go to that area.

I am friends with the owners brother. Good place to eat.

The bread Tads uses on their poboys is as good as I have had anywhere.

Italian, DaVinci's restaurant. Fry rd. and 99. Owner/Chef is graduate of Cordon Bleu in Paris. Everything is fantastic. I like the Heart of Palm salad and the Lobster Fradiavolo.

Burgers, Sam's deli and diner. I-10 and Kirkwood.

Sushi Sushi Hana, either location in Katy

Mexican Lopez Family restaurant 59 and Wilcrest

I never will understand the Lopez Family resturant craze...mediocre food to me.

I always appreciated the Cajun Lubys downtown.

Houston has so many wonderful choices. Since I live west of 610 Loop and east of the Sam Houston Tollway I will stick to that area with one or two exceptions. Exceptions are (##.) My wife and I tend to eat at the mom and pop places. Rarely do we eat at the big chain restaurants.

I do miss the good restaurants in Houston. Not much fine dining up here in the country, even if we go 40 miles to Waco. As bad as I miss Houston food, it was much worse when we moved to Houston from New Orleans. There was good food everywhere in New Orleans, and it didn’t cost a fortune. You could, of course, spend a fortune if you wished. Houston, to me, was a food wasteland. Better now, for sure, but still nowhere near N.O. food.

Oh well, there is spicy catsup at Whataburger. Who needs Oysters Bienville...

Or a good sauce piquante...

Houston has become the melting pot of different cultures so it's easy to find food from all over the world. But I do agree the N.O. style food here is always just alright, even though we have a large Nola presence here. There is just something that doesn't make the trip over here with the food.

Taste Of Texas Steakhouse on I-10 at Beltway 8.
Get the Porterhouse for two. Best salad bar in the city.

Truth on that salad bar, the blocks of cheese is where I do the most damage.

Just ordered a couple steaks from there to cook for Mom Day.

I think Babin's over in Katy does a fine interpretation of NOLA style cooking

Babin’s is pretty good, as is Pappadeaux. Landry’s is pretty good. The Magnolia Grill, that used to be on Richmond (out side the 610 loop) had the best chicken and sausage gumbo I ever had, and that includes NO.

If heading toward NO on I-10, stop off in Lafayette and eat at the Blue Dog Cafe. Then tell me if any place in Houston can cook like that.

Lupes tortillas steak fajitas. I like the original at I ten and hwy 6 area. Truth bbq on Washington ave. Mac and cheese from Jackson street bbq next to Minute Maid park is outstanding, I like taste of Texas steak and salad bar at I ten and the beltway. Nico nicos Greek food. I like the original near st Thomas.
