Couple buddy’s and I are thinking of buying some hog traps to help out some farmers with their hog problems.
Checking with you guys to see what your thoughts would be on “lease/payment” options. Also, let me know if this is something any of you would be interested in.

I trap over 6,000 acres on 7 different people and not one charges me a thing. In fact they hook me up with others in their circles that develop hog problems. If you were to start paying lease fees to trap hogs you will have a ton of trappers quit and the hog population would boom worse than it is. Its a fun hobby that pays for itself. Do not expect to quit your day job, it doesn't pay that well.
EDIT: I misread your post. Not sure if people would lease traps, or if I would want to lease my cell traps. The flaw in your design is there are plenty of us out here with our own setups willing to trap for a landowner for free.

I’m more wondering if this is normal?
Guy I go to church with says he pays a $250/month lease to a guy that traps on his place, and the guy gets to keep the hogs/$ for the hogs when he sells them.

Now that I've thought about it, your idea might work. Just like landowners that don't lease to hunters, we run across landowners who don't want trappers on their land, especially box trappers that have to run traps every day. If you were to invest in cellular traps, I could see landowners renting them for $250 a month, if not more. They can temporarily fix their hog problem for a fraction of the cost of the trap. The logistics of teaching them to run the electronics and associated app, phone passwords etc might be a nightmare. You might pitch it to them as you'll monitor the trap, alert them when you've caught a sounder. Let them shoot or load and sell whatever they want.
I don't see it working with box traps.
And if I understand, your friend is paying $250 to have someone trap?
