I am 67 years old and have been calling predators for almost 60 years and yesterday morning I did something that made me look like a beginner. On the very first call, I have a pair of coyotes running to the Ultracaller, broadside at about 50 steps. The caller is sitting in a plowed field and at one point I almost attempted a shot to kill both with one shot as they were running side by side just a few feet apart. I passed and they ran over the caller, the female continued straight ahead as she had my stink and the male wheeled back in the direction he came from. I bark and he looked at me while looping back to cover and I squeezed the trigger...CLICK!
In my attention to detail and getting everything just right...and I did as the coyotes came right where I wanted them, I forgot to put a shell in the chamber.
This happens to me at least once a year. I just hate it happened when Steve was rolling video. You will see the fiasco on CARNIVORE this season.

Been there - my most vivid recollection of the CLICK was on the largest buck I have ever seen while hunting. LF monster in Coleman County. The CLICK heard around the world - he jumped straight up, wheeled 180 degrees and was gone. Never saw him again. 15 years ago, and I still quadruple check my double check to make sure round in chamber and ready...

Could have been worse. Couldn't find the ladder anywhere. Told the wife it must have gotten stolen outta the back of my truck. Boy did I hear about it. That is until she found it - where it was supposed to be. Still don't know how I missed it, but I got to hear lots about it.

Been there. I had a mess of setting up a sit one night, took caller out and realized the battery was in the SxS. Walked back, with battery in the caller. Got to my chair and realized the remote is at the caller. Retrieved that, got everything on and working. 10 minutes later here comes the first dog, CLICK. Oh yeah, I’ve got to load this stupid thing.

Yep, I have done those crazy things as well...

we have all been there Gary. Sucks, we get P.O.’d at ourselves, but will be good stories around a camp fire to be laughed about for the rest of our days on this earth! Just asking, when your next Carnivores show is scheduled for release?

We will begin airing in July and go through December. This will be season 10...not sure how many more I have in me.

Buddies still give me a hard time about being Safety. We were going to double tap a sounder of pigs. His first time. I was so worried about getting him ready. I forgot to take my safety off. URGH! Even though both of the buddies that were there have since done it, they still don't let me live it down.

Boy I'm glad I've never made such an embarrassing mistake.

I wish I could say that it was the first and only time for me...…

I appreciate the title of this thread and the OP. At some point in time, everyone looks like a fool. Some more often than others. It's just most act like they are never a fool. Yeah well, I call BS on that. Mr. Roberson, if you really believe the described incident made you look like a fool, your degree of self accountability is way up there. Just keep on being a fool. Appreciate people like you.

Thank you, Sir. I plan to keep doing what I am doing and as age begins to erode at my senses, I am sure you will see more foolish mistakes. The difference between me and some other folks is, I will show them to you and laugh...never had much of an ego and don't care to hunt with guys that do.

Worst for me was, I had been hunting all day at the Matador WMA with my first bird dog when he was on his first season after training, hadn't seen a bird all day when i see a large covey cross the 2 track road we were on about 50 yards up ahead of my dog, he goes right to them and locks up on point, I walk in and flush the birds, click. birds flew across a large canyon unharmed. We headed for the truck. it happens
