I was poking around in the flowers in front of the house, looking for a few good picture opportunities, and was focused on these yellow daffodils. I looked away for a moment, then looked back, and what to my wondering eyes should appear but this red wasp! I took his picture just to make him happy, and then backed away to find another flower to photograph.

Great pic. Come to my house at the ranch and they are there in the bazillions. Endless stream coming from who knows where.......

I've been stung and bitten by just about everything that flies and crawls across the Texas landscape, but the sting of a red wasp is the most painful to me!

kind of funny, setting there trying to fish and realize my shoe appears to be getting tighter

So do I.

I got in my dozer a few years ago, and looked around for any insects as usual. I didn’t see any so I started it, let it warm up a few minutes, got in, closed the door and took off. About 30 seconds later the cab filled with them red devils right after I hit a rough spot. I put it in neutral and opened that door and was on the ground faster than One could believe. I was stung seven times on my neck and shoulders. From then on, if that machine had been sitting for long, a bug bomb preceded my use of it. They had nested under the seat where you couldn’t see I figured out.

I got whacked on the back of my head one time by one of those guys, almost gave me whiplash.
Also got stung on the ear once. Ear, not rear.

Got whacked in the inner thigh once walking into a shed...no forewarning...dang that was bad. Then a few months later got hit on the side of my face cutting limbs, I thought a branch somehow hit me, it was like getting slapped in the face with a big paddle. Not my friends.

Those things are terrible. I was loading up a truck leaving a ranch, got in and started driving and 2-3 minutes down the road one hit me in the middle of my back, it had crawled down my shirt. Locked up the tires and ran around the bar ditch with my shirt off for a minute or two. Terrible things.

Sounds like you may be allergic like me. As I've gotten older it has gotten worse. I have to keep an EpiPen (or whatever it's called) at the lease just in case. Bees, paper wasps, yellow jackets... no problem. But I swell up like crazy if a red one gets me. Then it burns and itches for a week.

Straighten up an old cow skull near the patio a few years back turned to walk away and thought someone shot me in the back of my ankle. Cow skull had a nest of them dang things and one got me. I stay clear of any red wasp I see.

I get hit several times a year by Red Wasps, Paper Wasps and Yellow-jackets. None are pleasant...but a Baldfaced Hornet or Guinea Wasp are what light me up.

It’s been awhile but the last time I got hit by a red wasp it felt like someone put a cigarette out on my forehead. Don't need to feel that again. mad

Growing up they were all in our bushes up front. My sister and I would swat them with badminton rackets and they would break in half through the strings. Running around barefoot I stepped on one of the tail ends and the stinger went way deep in my heal. I couldn’t believe how bad it hurt. For a long time too.

Love those guys. They are always so friendly, flying by your face to say hi, quickly darting out of sight, buzzing by your ear letting you know they got your back. Such friendly and respectable insects

Had a similar incident with a red wasp in my truck on 635 driving 65mph. No way to make a hasty exit. I looked like a drunk driver that was fighting himself

I'd just as soon have a hot poker put on me. My brother, being a genius, used to take his tennis racket and get a nest riled up and he was practice his swings by swatting the wasps as they came at him. That worked a while until he missed the double and got nailed on the forehead. Sometimes I wonder how we made it to adult hood.

Riding my motorcycle one afternoon and one of those dang red wasps went up the sleeve of my leather jacket! He stung me three times on the arm before I could stop the bike from running 70 mph! Pulled off the highway and threw that jacket off found the wasp. Stomped that sucker flat! Long ride home with a swollen arm...

They are the worst. Last one got me in ear. Good God Almighty.

I actually try and kill them slowly when I can.
