I've been shooting the 143 ELDX in my 6.5 manbun. The are extremely accurate and perform fairly well on game.
Anybody care to share their experiences with the 178gr. .308 ELDX's?

I've shot several central TX whitetails with it, results have been extremely good. One doe lung shot at 40-50 yards, went straight down with completely destroyed heart/lung region. I don't remember the others but I've been using the 143 in my 6.5 a lot more as my primary weapon.

Love the 178’s in my 30/06. Extremely devastating. Haven’t killed anything with them in my 308 yet

I've shot them out of a .308 and they are incredibly destructive to soft tissue/organs. I haven't had an animal make it very far with them. For my one gripe on it.... when dressing animals I've been mildly disappointed with the rounds ability for weight retention, it seems to grenade on impact opposed to mushrooming and tumbling, as a result I have gotten fewer pass through's on deer, which is fine if they are DRT or a short trail, but without the exit wound the blood trail is significantly less. I do really like the round as a whole for it's accuracy, availability, reliability, and damage it does to animals.

Ive had no issues with the 178's in my 18" ar10. Ive taken many hogs with it out to 500 yards and several deer within 300. And a gemsbok with the 220gr eld-x with my 300 RUM. Nothing ran more than 20-30 yards before dropping.

Thought of another, a doe I shot at about 110 yds after she ran while I was driving through the pasture. Even though she was worked up, she only went about 15 yards after taking the 178 from my 20” M70.

Edit, Garvey coached me out to 800yds with that rig and factory load.

I have used .308 Hornady ELDX on Hogs. I also used the 143 (i think that grain size is correct) ELDX in 6.5 creedmore. Most of the time they drop in their tracks or run no more than 30 yards. But then again same results with Rem core lock. I started using the core lock when I ran out of the ELDX , won't go back, core lock is cheap and accurate enough for me.

Chad at Custom Reloads loaded some 178 gr ELDX for my 300 WIn Mag Encore pistol and have been pleased with accuracy out to 200yds and they have performed well on deer and hogs.

What cartridge are you considering?

I've stayed with the ELDM line of bullets for thin skinned game (up to an unplanned Red Stag) in both the 6.5 and 308 (various cartridges)

HOWEVER- Chad loaded up some 212gr ELDX for my 300wm that shot lights out... and hummed along around 2950fps from a 26" 1-10 twist barrel. Haven't had a chance to run one of those through any critters though.
