Okay, since I am in a "stay at home" situation, thought I would work up some loads for my Ruger 77 Tanger. One of those safe queens and have never done any serious load development for it.

I would appreciate any load information available using 140's & 150's. Thanks Daniel

I have only loaded the heavier 168-175gr bullets. If you have Reloder 16 that would be the first powder I would try for those bullet weights as it should give highest velocity.

DStroud, I have some 162's but was wanting to make up some lighter recoiling loads. Besides my stash of 162's is getting pretty low. Haven't seen any RL-16 in any of the stores around here. I do have a good supply of Rl-15 & 17. Just can't find recipes for the 17. Thanks Daniel

Just ran a batch for my son in law today. He shoots the very same rifle you have.
They perform very well and have many kills in the books.

For years and years dad shot the factory Remington 120 grain hollow points, neck shots only. The exits were impressive to say the least. Several times little more than some hide on top and bottom holding the head on. I’ve been pondering loading some of those Barns as he is looking for something with less recoil these days.

One bullet I used a long while in my old 7x57 was the Speer 130 gr Hot Core. Not a long range bullet but very effective back when the limit on Bucks in Mississippi was one per day.

I remember those days, around my place the buck to doe ratio got to crazy numbers, state biologist said 28 does for every buck before they finally ended that practice. I have used that bullet in the 7-39 Waters and it kills deer very well.

Matt, you know the 120 class bullets can be loaded down like you do for your wife in the 270

I have been unsuccessfully trying to sell him on that.

Well, I took some of the information given here on this post, loaded up 2 different bullets with RL-19 and went to the range. Came back well pleased with the results. I have not measured yet but looks like the BEST is the Nosler 140 AB with 55 gr of 19 & 2nd best is the Hornady 139 SST loaded with 52.4 gr of 19. The Noslers were touching (3 shots) with the Hornadys 2 of 3 touching. Thanks for the information. Daniel

The 140gr Accubonds are wicked in my 280ai. So are the 160's. Animals can't tell any difference anyway.

For deer I would lean towards the lighter loadings. I like the 140 grain in a .284 caliber.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
