Get some of this stuff. It will be gone in 2 days time. I got it via prescription. I asked for a large enough bottle to use the next time I got it and it's lasted for several years. It is the best stuff I have found. The OTC stuff never worked for me, it just maintained and never cleared up.

Got a bottle of prednisone in the medicine cabinet? Only thing that helps me these days. Doc might prescribe over the phone for you.

Use 1% cortisone cream to repair the skin and benadryl cream to keep it from itching.

What's worked for me many times, is far from preferred however.. I scratch the hell out of it then douse it in rubbing alcohol. Repeat a couple of times a day and usually gone in a week. Now I have only done this when I get it on my arms or legs. If I had it in any other place , I would probably opt for more conventional treatments.

The oil that gets on you is just that...oil. You have to scrub it off with hot water and soap with a wash cloth and it won't affect you but if it is too late for that I just use calamine and pee on it. Ok, I don't pee on it either.

Burts Bees has a good soap.

None of the OTC stuff is going to make much of a difference. Get a steroid shot for quickest results.

When I was younger I would pop the blisters and pour bleach on it. Burned like a MF'r but it dried it up. Not recommended if you have it on your nads.

One time I was covered in it. My cousin is a pharmacist and had some cortisone pills for her dog that was allergic to bee stings. She gave me some to take and I swear it was gone in 24 hours.

I so something similar. Get an old toothbrush, when you get in the shower get the brush good and soapy, scratch until it hurts/bleeds, wash real good. When you are done you can put some over the counter stuff on or not. When I was a kid my doc said that helps to get the oils out and keep it from itching, but more importantly keep it from spreading.
Also, make sure the toothbrush you use is way different than you and your spouses current ones...

* Poke salad root. Boil the root of a poke salad plant until it turns into a paste form. It will have a strong odor. Then, once it has cooled enough not to scald, rub it on the infected area until you can feel it "burn or sting". It should neutralize the poison ivy overnight.

Be warned that it burns like all get out but it works. Granny was half Cherokee and had quite a few home remedies that worked that I still use.
