Well, I've got my own brain teaser kicking...
I've owned an eotech XPS2 and I enjoyed it. Had a sightmark magnifier and it was just Ok. Looking at the XPS3 now, with a better magnifier behind it.
Now, I'll admit, I'm falling down a rabbit hole of videos and looking at the Trijicon ACOG and after the brain teaser post, considering the Trijicon RMR Reflex Sight Dual Illuminated. Or one day, having both?
I'd like to hear some opinions on those that have used these set ups, and especially folks that have experience and feedback with both. Thanks!

Look at the new red dot magnifier combo from American Defense. I use their mounts exclusively, their new red dots and magnifiers look pretty good for the cost.

SS 1-6X Mil/Mil FFP
At 1X you have a large ring for aiming, and a clear sight picture as close at ten feet.
Go to 6X and you have a Mil reticle, that can easily do 500 yards.

XPS with the EOtech magnifier is a good, flexible way to go. RMR is lighter and has less visual obstruction, but idk how it would work with a magnifier. I have rifles with both the EOtech combo and an ACOG on them, as well as a rifle with a 1-10. which I'd recommend would 100% come down to your primary purpose, and how far you want the rifle to be practical to

Go to 6X and you have a Mil reticle, that can easily do 500 yards. I checked this out at SWFA's store last year - easily the nicest sub-$1500 scope for an AR that I've seen. I've been wanting one bad, but I just hardly ever shoot my AR. And honestly, my Bushnell AR223 3-9x40 isn't a terrible scope if you're not looking for up-close work at 1x. And it was like $89 on black friday several years ago. But if I intended to shoot my AR more than once a year or so, then the SWFA 1-6 is a no-brainer. Extremely well-designed, durable scope with excellent glass and reticle.

While that is a decent scope, it is insanity to call it easily the nicest sub $1500 scope for an AR you've ever seen. No way that scope is nicer than a Vortex Razor 1-6 if you want to stick with LPVOs

Yes way. It is less likely to break than that Vortex.
The glass is very good, and it does everything they say it will do, over and over.

George,
What exactly are you trying to do with this rifle? You had an eotech and are considering another... or going magnified? If you want to hunt and plink out to 5-600 yards then get a LVPO of some sort... 1-6, 1-8, etc. Also- this is a better choice IMO than a red dot with a flip up... not a fan of the flip up magnifiers... to much going on.
Nothing really to gain going from a 2 to 3 on the eotech unless you are running NVGs.
Currently my work gun has an aimpoint micro- H2 on a scalarworks mount. Great set up, simple dot, great battery life, very light and nothing to worry about snagging when deploying out of a mount in a vehicle.
The Trijicon MRO HD has my attention now because of the new reticle they are offering which is basically the same as the eotech 68moa circle and 2 moa dot but without the 'cons' of the eotech platform... also can be mounted on a scalarworks mount.

I think the SS 1-6X Mil/Mil FFP would fit the bill quite well, after doing some reviewing and researching.
I'm wanting to be able to have very close range ability and to be able to reach out further for any longer range hogs or coyotes that dare to cross the path of doom. Want to train at close ranges (20 yards or so) and mostly to be used at 100-250 yards in hunting applications, primarily. I have a range of about 500 yards to work with at the ranch, so this would be used for that as well, to train at longer distances.
ALSO - If I go with the SS 1-6X, what mount would you suggest?

I don't know how it compares but the Accupower 1-8 is something I'd look at. We have the 1-4x accupoint on our main ar in a Larue mount. However the power ring is super stiff. We also have a 2.5-10x accupoint, again on a Larue mount I find that thing to be super clear. These 1x to some low magnification is the best overall solution for an ar to me.
I'm a dude who likes long barrels!

The glass is very good, and it does everything they say it will do, over and over. Less likely to break according to who? And the Razor has better light transmission, better color differentiation and doesn't have stupidly tall turrets. I owned one of those SWFA's for about 3 months, shot probably 2500 rounds under it, and sold it. Didn't want to deal with the distortion around the edges, the poor tracking, and lack of tactile "clicks" when making adjustments.

Less likely to break according to thousands of shooters.
And you're the first person I've ever seen say poor tracking with an SS scope.

Since you are firing 5.56, you may want to look at a Primary Arms 1-6 or 1-8. They have a great reticle for 5.56.

Thanks for your insights and suggestions. I'm gonna take a look through an Accupower and if that doesn't work, then the SS.

And you're the first person I've ever seen say poor tracking with an SS scope. Please, show my this study done on thousands of shooters where they say a Razor is more likely to break than an SWFA. And most people dont ever bother to check tracking on an LPVO. Hell, most dont do it on their scopes, period.
