These jumped out in front of me while I was breaking the garden. The last covey I saw around here was at least 20 years ago so I was surprised and pleased just hope they make it.

That's awesome. I haven't seen a quail in Lee county for at least 20 years.

I miss those guys. I use to hunt quail, but I don't know if I could do it any more. Not that I was a threat to quail population, but that I would love to see them make a comeback.

That's awesome. Congratulations!

I took a long walk (rifle in hand) yesterday evening. Not long before sundown I heard quail calling "covey up" back to the northwest. Despite the gentle calling of the mourning doves already on their roost, that was as peaceful sound as I could have asked for. Wish I could have recorded it and played it for the world right now...

Last time I saw a wild covey of quail in the field was when I was a kid. What happened to those suckers anyways?

Awesome cheers I miss the days of walking to the deer stand right before first light and busting a covey almost right under your feet and getting that whoa rush as they fly about 20-30 yards away.

BTW good looking dirt in your field up

There were a few still around in the Early 80's but their numbers were declining fast. I've not heard one on my place in almost 30 yrs.

Another thing I've noticed that is conspicuously absent (or nearly so) are Roadrunners. Used to have them all over the place.

Horned Toads are pretty much gone as well.

I have very found memories as a kid hearing them call from a small group of trees in my grandfather's pasture in East Texas. That must have been 50 or more years ago.

That is pretty cool. Quail were always a great distraction to watch from the blind growing up hunting in South Texas.

Don't look for the Horned Toads but we have a good population of Roadrunners here in Camp Co. (NE Texas). See one or two nearly every trip to town.
