I have a 16' swing tube gate I need to put a automatic gate opener on. Been looking at Mighty Mules but reviews are mixed. Any suggestions or experiences shared would be most appreciated!
TIA

I had the Mighty Mule and strong winds destroyed two of them. Other than that they worked flawlessly for the cost.

Had Mighty Mule, end of the rod broke, they could send a rebuilt ram for slightly less than original purchase price. It too broke after a short while. They argued that wind on a chain link gate caused the breakage. Self engineered an opener setup using a garage door opener (screw type) . It opens much quicker. I wouldn't have another MM if given to me. Drive around and look at all the gates with them on and not being used because of the broken ram.

Just had an Apollo installed yesterday. Not quite sure if this what you are looking for. Mine is 16' as well with solar panel. Had an Apollo in our other home as well. Great arms, IMO. It was over 20 years old and worked flawlessly. I will not ever own anything but Apollo.

Thanks for the reports. So far I haven't got any comfortable feelings about the MM's. Thanks Superduty, but that's a little over-kill for my needs - nice set-up though!
My gate is made of light tubing & I'm sure weighs well under 100 lbs. Looks like you must pay the extra $175 extended warranty for a MM(?)

I've had a MM for years with the auto open sensor. Only issue i have ever had was during a bad ice storm years ago. Also no matter what kind you get please tell your local PD or Sheriff's department the code so they can put it in the 911 notes. Will save you a gate and opener just in case something was to ever happen.

We’ve had a MM opener for about 12 years on our rather heavy gate. I had a couple of gate opener issues over time, but on the advice of MM customer service, I bought a heavy duty opener. No problems since.
If you do get a MM opener and plan to run it off battery power, use a deep cycle trolling motor battery and a solar charger. You do NOT want to use those small sealed batteries.

I use DKS and Lift Master on my gates. They work great with no issues. I have no experience with Apollo, and bad experience with MM.

I’ve had an Apollo for 11 years. One circuit board issue that the installer replaced. Rest of the time was trouble free. They used to be a San Antonio company, but sold at some point I think.

There is one point I probably should make on the MM I have. I did have to buy the heavy duty opener, and it was quite expensive even though I got a refurbed one. It did fix my problems, but with that expense, maybe the Apollo might not be too terribly more expensive. I’ll leave the comparative math to ya’ll.

Bumper gate? Is this for keeping 4-legged critters in or 2-legged critters out?
