Ior track record in reliability is a bit sketchy. That being said they have supposedly gotten better but you still don't see a ton of them out there being used.

With them being in Romania “a bit sketchy” was not what I was hoping for. Thank you. At that price one might be better off with two sketchy Vortex and an excellent warranty. Lol

Build location wouldn't bother me if they had a service center in the USA. Also at that price point there are lots of good options out there.

Just pony up a little more dinero and get a TT. This is ponying up for me I assure you. Dee that is a wide open field. I will not buy a NF just because I’m stubborn, but the Kahles has always been on my list. I’ve walked into SWFA more than once to buy the Kahles and always leave with something else. It’s a lot of money for a hobby but I always go down the rabbit hole.

I'd do my best to get any scope you might want outside to look through. Not everyone's eyes like the same features or qualities.

Build location wouldn't bother me if they had a service center in the USA. Also at that price point, there are lots of good options out there. They do. Valentine has a facility in Burleson, Texas. They do not work on them in the US, however. The location in Burleson is strictly a distribution point for US dealers. Like Doug aforementioned, there are several other options available within that price range. A couple of questions I would purpose would be; 1.) Why do I need that much magnification? As a rule of thumb, for every 1X in mag, you should be able to identify targets in 100-yard increments. For example on the low end with this scope, you should be able to identify a man-size target at 580 yards. 2.) If I buy this and decide that I don't like it for whatever reason, It's too heavy? It's too Bulky? or .... Can I resell it and get most of my money back out of it? When you get into the European stuff, there are several unknowns. A friend, Matt, who has a youtube channel "TiboursarousRex" Absolutely loves IOR products. Check out some of his videos. He's dry and matter of fact, but he's upfront in his videos. Additionally, I would call a professional, like Doug and listen to what he has to say. Being in the business, he sees what goes in and out and buys the product for his shelves accordingly.

That level of magnification interest me because at times I want to shoot as tiny as possible. While I love the SWFA 5-20 it was not enough for my eyes to shoot for groups at 1000. It did allow me to ring the gong repeatedly though.
As far as return value on purchase I know the Valdada would be a big loss. Few have heard of them. The good news is once I get ready to sell something I near give it away anyway.
Thanks for the advice guys.

I've had a 4-28x50 Recon for several years,it has been a fantastic scope. Tracks perfectly, glass is just as good as any other $3k scope, and built like a tank. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of the 40mm tube Valdada's or the Recon G2.
Yes,IOR Valdada had some problems 10-15 years ago with a couple different models,so does every other brand. I shoot LH,and the only other scope that I was looking at when I built this rifle was the Kahles K624i since these two scopes are easier for LH shooter's to adjust parallax. Kahles was having tracking issues with their series 1&2 K624i's,so I went with the IOR Recon.

As far as return value on purchase I know the Valdada would be a big loss. Few have heard of them. IOR has been making optics since 1936,and have been importing scopes in the USA since the 1980's. Plenty of people have heard of them, and also own them. Spending $2k - $3k+ on a scope is a big investment, and there are plenty brands to choose from. There are also plenty of these types of scopes for sale used at fantastic prices. There are fanboy's for every brand, and they push whatever they have or which is popular with their shooting buddies. I just like good scopes,no matter the brand. I have Swarovski, IOR Valdada, Nightforce, Revic, Steiner, Sightron, Athlon, and Weaver scopes. I'd suggest looking through several brands, and then decide on what to buy. Look around, and you more than likely can find a used or clearance sale for $1k or more less than the new price. I just bought a new Steiner T5xi 5-25x56 for $1100 off list price.

Txhillbilly thanks for the first hand report. ATACR seems to be the gold standard. Have you had any experience with one to compare?

Why not buy a NF? What are you being stubborn about? Same reason I’ve had two 6.5x55 and a .260 yet no Creedmoor. I’ve never stated that’s the Creedmoor was inferior, just that I don’t want what everyone else has. Back when I was drag racing everyone was running a small block Chevy, I had a 351 Cleveland. Took me twice the money to be competitive but I did it. I do honestly believe the ATACR is the gold standard. It’s just not for me.

I don't mean this insulting, but to maintain that stubbornness over a rifle scope is dumb. You're willing to spend that much money, and you do not have to ask any questions as to whether or not a NF is worth spending that much on. But you're willing to spend $3k on a scope that might be worth a damn? Sorry, I'm not that wealthy. When i spent that much money, I made damn sure it was something that was going to do everything I asked of it, and it absolutely has, even with as much work as I put them through.

I have only limited experience with Valdada as I have shot my friends custom 50 cal that has the 40mm tube Model on it. I can say the glass is quite good as we compared it to my BEAST and they were close enough it was difficult for me to say one was superior. I think it was the Recon model.

There are many brands that have optics as good if not better than Nightforce. The ATACR is a great scope, but it's not the best by any means. Nightforce glass has never impressed my eye's. But,if you need to use your scope as a framing hammer,by all means ,buy a Nightforce.
When you get into the $2500 and up scopes,You really can do no wrong. They are all great scopes, some do things better, but I don't think too many fail at delivering good quality.

While glass is important. I see no one mentioning tracking, and tracking is as or more important than another .2% of glass clarity. Does it correct elevation what I told it to and does it return to zero?
With the ATACR, the answer is absolutely. I was having this conversation with a customer, and to illustrate this point, I dialed up the ATACR for 800 yard DOPE made a hit on a an 8" plate. Dialed back to 0 then checked zero at 100 yards, and it was perfect. The rifle hd not been shot in a week, so if something goes wrong, it is not the scope.

Yes,the ATACR tracks good,so does the Recon,Revoc,Sightron,Kahles,March,S&B,TT,ZCO,and many other's. We get it,You are a big fan of Nightforce. Nothing wrong with that, but there are other brands that do the same things just as good. Some guy's like Kreiger barrels, some like Bartlein, some like others. They all shoot about the same!
