Yesterday I had too much free time, so I decided to mess up the kitchen.

I tried a couple of new ideas (for me new anyway.)

I grilled some pork chops so that was nothing new. I also added some balsamic glazed green beans to the plate. Again nothing new with that idea.

The rice is where I began to depart from the normal way of doing business. I cooked a pan of rice like normal. Once the rice was finished cooking, I turned off the heat and added a scrambled egg containing chopped green onions and a little seamed oil. I placed the lid back on top of the pan and I let the residual heat from the rice cook the egg mixture in about 5 minutes.

I also experimented with a new to me desert. In a oven safe pan I added about a cup of sugar and made a caramel sauce in the pan using a medium flame. When the caramel was a nice amber color I added a little cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Next into the pan I placed 3 chopped tart Granny Smith apples. Using a spoon I tucked a sheet of puff pastry on top of the apple and caramel mixture. I baked the desert about 15 minutes in a 400 degree F oven. After the desert was finished baking I inverted the desert onto a plate.

There almost isn’t anything quite as satisfying as getting a little experimental in the kitchen and it really paying off.
Freakin’ well done! up
