I’m in the research stages of planning a black bear hunt in the continental US. My only requirement is that I can use my 460XVR revolver.

Where have y’all had the best luck and what outfitter did you use? This will likely be for 2021, spring or fall.

Fancy tires-

I sent you two options bait and hounds. Joe’s on this forum some. He is hard to beat on the hounds and is out of Capitan so he is close.

I would apply for a tag in the Navajo Nation Spring or Fall for $1,000. If you get drawn, contact Calvin Redhouse with Rez Hounds and pay him a day rate to take you. It is the cheapest hunt I am aware of and chances of getting a 250-300 pound color phase bear are very good. Calvin shoots video for me on CARNIVORE, Marine that served five tours of duty. Honest and hard working.
Go to Rez Hounds on facebook and you can see a lot of great video and photos or go to the PursuitUp app on your smart device and click on hunting, then CARNIVORE and you can watch some of the episodes with Calvin. By the way, the app is free.
Adios,
Gary

The hounds look like a fun hunt.

If I go Colorado I won’t need the draw, a guy I know owns tons of land and an outfitter company. Just not real keen on Colorado for bears.

Wyoming allows baiting and hounds but we have a sow quota for each area.

It’s a $100 tag, they are essentially OTC in most units, always left over.

What else you doing in Sept?

I’ll be in Yellowstone with the family. I’ll likely be in Colorado in late October for something else

You could drive over to the Bighorns and hunt bears there while on your Yellowstone trip, or south and get out of grizz country and hunt.
We've got some in the Snowies as well, see sign on our archery elk hunts every year.

We used Tomah Mountain Outfitters in upstate Maine. Did a hound hunt last fall. Had a blast. I’d definitely recommend the outfitter, Joe. Real good honest guy. He’ll work hard to get you a bear. He has still hunts and hounds.

Last fall in Maine. Tomah Mountain Outfitters, Joe Bowen runs it. Both my son and I got bears. Chasing those dogs was a lot of fun. Rough country up there.
