that was a good article. Most of the ones I've seen before have been highly influenced. Influence likely from feed companies who've lost sales due to the offset of cottonseed being fed.

Interesting that the high protein count might have a negative effect in the summer time. What say you?

I do not know much. What I do know is that I have a neighbor that feeds cotton seed as well as protein pellets year around. He is very well off and money is no object. I see the Bucks he takes off his place as well as he sees mine. For the amount of money and time he spends on feeding I really don't see that it is worth it. He may have some other problems such as genetics etc. But him being next to me I would rule that out. Wat I have seen is that his Deer may have a little advantage on mine as far as weight but truthfully the antler difference is not there.

I used to be 110% against it, but have become a convert. I just won't feed it for more than about 3 months at a whack, based on one of the other Kleberg studies. The All Seasons Feeder in the article is kinda cool.

no argument - you witnessed on your property what you witnessed.

on our place we started CS around 6-7 years ago - big jump in weight and mass. Biggest advantage I see is that CS can be placed outside of feed pens. That allows the fawns and youngsters to ingest feed without having to try to jump into a pen. Our deer hammer it so we will keep feeding it - zero negative impact - this guy won Las Cazadores mass - 44 inches of mass - low fence

We used to have cotton burrs hauled in and spread on a field. It was the trash from the ginning process, included burrs, cotton, and seed along with a million weed seeds, But we noticed the deer eating off of the piles, it worked for us, and it helped to add to the rocky dirt as the trash composted. When we did feed cotton seed it was only for about 2 months after the deer season ended. Hard to tell if it helped, since the neighbors fed all kinds of good stuff year round, and the deer were free roaming.
