Anybody been there? I need a good place reasonably close, and need to try them out, but data from a real customer would be good before I drive there.
There’s a new BBQ joint where Kirby’s used to be (near Mexia), called Baby Clay’s BBQ. Only went there once so far, but I wasn’t impressed. The Kirby’s was rated in the top 50 in Texas, and I miss them.

I haven't been to either or know of anyone that's tried either of them....

Went fishing today, and came by Mookie’s on the way home. Ordered sliced brisket and Jalapeño and cheese sausage. Excellent. And I had a long visit with Mookie himself. Very nice guy. Says he has plans to open a BBQ place in Groesbeck, which is music to my ears.
So...I recommend Mookie’s in Coolidge, Texas. It ain’t the 407, but it ain’t bad.

Went to Mookie’s BBQ again today, on the way back from fishing. It’s open for seating now, so we did. I had a chopped brisket sandwich, with pickles, onions, and jalapeños. Big sandwich, and excellent. Got some more of their sausage too, for later. That place is worth stopping for BBQ.
