I'm currently shopping 300 uppers. What barrel length do you suggest for a suppressed upper? Thanks.

Pistol or rifle? I’d go as short as possible if I was suppressing it. 10.5 or so on a pistol, 16 on a rifle.

Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

300BLK is optimized for a 9” barrel, all the powder should be burned by that point. I run a 8” barrel with Chads SBR load. It’s a hammer on pigs within 150 yards.

I've been running 10.5" since 2015. These days a bit shorter is more popular, but they do require you run a pistol length gas tube, and un-suppressed that can sometimes be an issue.

So no there aren’t “sometimes can be an issue”. Only issue is people that can’t build an AR that will run.

Here's some velocity numbers my 300 blk out ammo does in certain barrel lengths and rifles. The 300 blk out does not lose that much velocity when shortening the barrel. Not near as much compared to a 223/5.56, or other bottle necked rounds. I have 2 AR pistols, and both are 10.5". The 9"-11" is an ideal length for a handy AR. The LeHigh 78 grain bullet at 2602 fps would be NASTY on 2 legged critters (one AR pushes it at 2634 fps with the same load). I love the blk out, and it is much more powerful in a short AR than a 223 is. The 223 really needs a longer barrel for velocity, and I want more than a small 22 caliber for defense.
10.5" AR pistol 110 V-max= 2245 fps 115 Berger= 2235 fps 78 grain LeHigh= 2634 fps
16" bolt gun 78 grain LeHigh= 2796 fps 110 vmax-2420 fps 115 Berger= 2414 fps (2380 fps in 16" AR) 125 sst- 2356 fps
