I went to the Oklahoma place today.

Spent about 2 hours walking over about a 100 acres of it

I didn’t find anything

I’ll try and get back up there in a week or two

There is absolutely no reason to let dogs be dogs.

$1,200 dollars on a vet bill? Guessing here I just don’t get it. So glad I ran over my last dog and didn’t replace her.

How soon after the breeding season do the bucks move back to their summer ranges? I have plenty of good bucks during the season but I rarely find their sheds.

Was out at the lease in Dickens county and surprised to see the majority still had their antlers. See prob 8 WT bucks all still had antlers and 2 MD bucks that still had them.

Thats a good one. The short grass and weeds sure make it easier to find them. We still got 2 ft of brown broom weed all over the lease in Dickens. Was hoping to take little man to look for some but gonna be tough in that crap.

Went down yesterday. Found a spike and a 5 point shed in the 1st feed pen. Thought it was going to be like that everywhere, but nope, it was not. Checked six more feed pens, drove around a lot and found two more sheds. Nothing impressive.

Wow
those are some good ones

My place is in far east Bexar County between St Hedwig and La Vernia and the bucks there just started dropping this week.
I think that is pretty average for us and that is a little surprising as dry as it has been. Until the 3" I got last Friday and Saturday I'd had exactly 7" on the dot from July 14 2019 to March 14 2020.

High fence, low fence, no fence, it really doesn't matter as long as you're hunting!

Found a few this year. Nothing crazy. Sad to see a couple dead bucks we found. Overall l got a pair of good rattling antlers, and one to look for, a single sided main frame 6 pt (12pt buck), Looked for his other side but it wasn’t anywhere we looked.

We found a dead one on the side of a sendero near a feeder. He expired after season as his horns had already dropped and his bare pedicles were obvious. Ya' gotta wonder how many more are laying there out in the pasture.

I wonder as well how many die of natural causes. Ive never really researched it or heard much about it. I would think it has been studied. Common sense, I think, would say that a place that stays real shot up would probably not have many get old enough to die off. A well managed place should have a lot more older bucks so it seems more would die off. Although, a REAL well managed place would be efficient and selective in their killing so that numbers were controlled by killing inferior bucks, at least by maturity, to keep them out of post mature age class. Of course, a tight sex ratio would cause more fighting which can be deadly. And then too many deer means not enough food, so once again, death. The factors go on and on I guess. Maybe we should start a new thread on natural mortality of bucks..... I really miss STxRanchman on topics like this. Ofcourse Bobo taught him everything he knows so maybe he will chime in. smile

I just started a new thread on "dead heads" or natural mortality in bucks so we don't have to hijack this thread.
