Recently added to my growing Marlin collection with this beautiful 1967 in 35 Remington. When I called to complete the order I found out it was owned by a WWII veteran that had passed away a couple of years ago and the family ended up selling his guns to the store. I put a Burris Fullfield II on it and I am going to find a front hood and hammer spur for it soon. The last pic is with the 1971 444 I posted recently.

Hit me the same way.

I'm not putting a scope on a lever action, pretty much the same way with all the crap they're hanging on pistol and rifles anymore.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

Good grief, get over the scope issue. Back in about 1963 my Dad bought 3 Marlins, a 30/30 for him and 35’s for my brother and me. I was the only one that didn’t want a scope, and I was the only one having hunting trouble in real dim light, and not getting many deer. So I got a scope (4x). Made all the difference.

If you plan on being an effective hunter, get a scope. Otherwise, you will struggle with the iron sights when the light fails, and it gets worse as you age.

In good light, I was about 100% good to 150 yards with the scope. Longest kill shot was about 260 yards (some luck involved there probably). Get the scope.

Yep.

The 336 cowboy 30-30 I had would do 1.5” or better when I had a scope on it... not so much when I shot irons.

I’d strap whatever scope you want on top of it and start killing the hell outta critters.

And then I’d post lots of pics up

Ammo and brass can be hard to find. Are you a reloader?

Not at the moment.

I prefer an open-sighted 30-30 whenever I expect to be going through thick brush or other areas where I might jump a bedded hog, or any other place where a more defensive shot might be required.

I have hemmed and hawed on putting a scope on my 336. I've mounted and removed bases from it twice already and never even put an optic on it.

I picked up a Leupold FXI 4x28 for my pellet gun and i like it so much, it might go on my 336 instead.

Light compact scope, should still be very handy

They came drilled and tapped for scope mounts. That’s saying something.

Might also call for a scout setup. So you can still wrap your hand around the balance point and carry it easy. Those xs scout mounts are pretty popular.

Some of us older folks need a scope. You may not like the aesthetics, but I’ll take function over fashion any day.

Not the same family I know. Good looking rifle. Would like a 35 lever gun someday.

I tried the open sight thing a few times. It only took one bad shot to make me never do it again. I was shooting a open sight Winchester Big Bore 444 Marlin and I felt my comfort zone was about 50 yards. Big fat doe comes in to about 45 yards broad side so I steady the rifle and BOOM!!!! She went down but started spinning around like a top so I chambered another round and hit her again and killed her. My first shot had taken out her back leg. No idea how I made that bad of a shot but I vowed to give up on the open sight hero stuff and start using a scope for anything over normal bow hunting range. I don't care if it ruins the look of a classic gun or not, I just don't want to ever make a shot like that ever again.

My 1951 336 waffle top didn't...
My 1951 Marlin 39A peanut didn't...
My Rossi R92 .357 didn't...

I'm not hunting with any of these nor ever installing a scope on a lever gun. To each his own. I would, however, like to find a 336 in .35 REM ... make mine a 1951 model to keep with the theme. cheers

Pass the gravy.

I have a 1961 model with the same scope mounted. You should be pleased with the combination. I haven't tried to find ammo lately for mine. Are you having any issues finding some?

I just ordered 6 boxes from Grabagun.com along with 30-30 and 444 for the other marlins

The selling point Marlin made on their rifles was the ability to put a scope on them. I have eleven centerfire Marlins; 218 Bee through 444 Marlin, all are scoped. At one time, I had three times that many. Yep, all scoped. Nice rifles '71!

Horder! laugh

I had a 336ER chambered in 356 Win but sold it for a pretty penny.

I had a bunch of interesting Marlin's: a 336SC chambered in 219 Zipper, both of the other Express's; 308 and 338.
