The one in Goliad was called the Goliad massacre. Over 400 prisoners were lined up and shot. I read a book called The Son that gave the gory details. flag

It took 13 days and 90 minutes for 5,000 + or - mexicans to defeat 185 Texans.
It took 18 minutes for 910 Texans to defeat 1,360 Mexican soldiers.
Thanks to the brave defenders at the alamo, Houston was able to form a organized army to fight the Mexican dictator.

Without the Alamo our whole country would most likely look different on a map, and we wouldn't have the Texas Hunting Forum either!!!!!

March 6th, 1836 -- Alamo falls to Mexican army
On this day in 1836, the fortified compound of San Antonio de Valero Mission, under siege for thirteen days by the Mexican army under General Antonio Lòpez de Santa Anna, was subjected to an early morning assault. After a fierce battle, lasting for perhaps some 90 minutes, the defenses of the Alamo were overrun and all the defenders were killed. The chapel fell last. The slogan "Remember the Alamo!" subsequently became a rallying cry for the Texas Revolution, and the Alamo became a shrine to fallen Texas heroes.

Four men fought and died at the Alamo whose names are still unknown.

When we took the kids on a trip to the Hover damn. One of the guys that worked there saw that we had on some Texas gear on, and asked us if we were from Texas. We responded, yes. He then said you guy from Texas are proud of your state, I told him it's the best country in the United States.... he just shook his head.

When I visit the Alamo I wish I could see what the area looked like back then too.

"The new project is gonna try and do that." Yeah and you'll get to see interesting stuff like how the missionaries got the "locals" to plant corn and raise cattle.

Sooo where is it that you have a problem? You dont like its ties to Spain? Or Mexico? Or to natives? It should only be about the 13 days? Help me understand your thought process.

Belief mine, the "revitalized" Alamo project wants to shift focus from the Battle of the Alamo to Spain's colonization of the natives. I don't think that is such a good thing.

What's wrong with Mexico, Spain or the indigenous peoples of central TX? Those issues were solved long ago.

Tha Alamo was built in 1718 there was a lot more to the history of Texas then 13 days at the Alamo. When I went to the Pearl Harbor National Memorial they didnt just talk about Dec 7th.

Yep, correct. Built in 1718 and in ruins before the battle took place. Celebrate the failed mission or celebrate the emergence of the state which is intact 183 years later.

Take your pick.

What part of Texas are you from? Not from around here are you?

Grew up in San Antonio (South siders rule) and ran around most of the other missions more than the Alamo. Loved going to all of them.

Dang, I missed that one big time. I figured you weren't from around here and romanticized the Alamo from some John Wayne movie, and didn't want to hear the rest of the story. As Paul Harvey would say.
