Daytime hogging consists of walking the creek bottom thickets with the wind at your back, slow and looking, listening, smelling and when you get too close they will make their escape and hopefully you can get off a shot. This big boar took his first shot to the chest at 40 yds climbing up the river bank to get away, but that turned him back down and headed at me on a dead run and he got 6 or 7 more before he stopped just a few feet below me. Crazy tough and he had some nasty sharp teeth that would not be good to deal with.

Great job! Bet that was getting the heart rate up!

Went back this morning and got in the middle of a sounder in the thicket and sat down, all w/in 20-25 yds around me, I was trying to take out the big sow so I could catch some piglets but they finally winded me and left but I did find another Boar I shot last night at dark. Oh, this is my 224 Valkyrie. It really has been a great caliber for hogs and deer so far.

Did you mean to say wind at your back or wind in your face?
When in doubt, take the .45-70

At your back. Hogs do not want to move during the day and they will let you walk right past. If you keep your wind in their nose they get nervous and often you will hear them grunt a little in discontent. So you need to go slow and look and listen and smell and if you get close enough they will bust out offering a shot...hopefully. It is usually fast and furious but often they will take off and stop and look to see the danger giving a second or two to get "on them".

Have not heard that approach before. Will give it a try.
But I wonder if you have a stiff wind that day that they will get the scent too far ahead and be gone well in advance.
Although I do note that when in a bunch, hogs get sloppy and complacent about watching for danger, apparently each one assuming the others are looking out. A kind of "safety in numbers" fallacy.

Of course every situation has it's own variables. One thing is if they just bedded down for the day they are more likely to get up too soon, same with evening so I usually only do it this way during the daytime. Never before an evening stalk, it will ruin your hunt, they are already getting ansy to get up and go.
