I do not hunt in an area with this stuff but am hearing a lot of ranches and leases affected by it - anyone here in the middle of this and how long will it take for these ranches to recover? I feel horrible for the ranch owners

Titan2232 got hit bad by it. I think he’s in Val Verde county. I’m sure he’ll be along tomorrow.

I had a few clients ranches get hit.

One we had a 90% loss on whitetail

100% loss of our mature deer (several we've been watching for 5+ years) and at least a 90% total loss of whitetail. Axis are thicker than ever, have a few black buck now, and the pigs are few and far between

As of mid January we've got maybe 4-5 regular whitetails going to each feeder which would be 50-60 whitetail on over 3000 acres, but nearly all of those are young bucks with a large percentage of those being spikes. We have a large 500 acre bedding area that's not being hunted or pressured so I look for the rebound to happen fairly quickly

North side of our property was hit first around August 21st-24th according to cameras. My area roughly a mile south began seeing the anthrax July 14th with zero activity by July 21st (7 of my mature trophies found within 500 yards of my feeder)

I knew something was wrong when I walked up to my Lamco that had 250 pounds of protein sitting in the troughs. You could smell death literally every road you went down in late July

"Axis are thicker than ever, have a few black buck now, and the pigs are few and far between"

Would the anthrax not affect the axis and black buck as much as the whitetails confused2 Seems odd to me that they are thriving when the whitetails are almost wiped out.

My buddies place northwest of Bracketteville lost about 50% of their herd. Some good deer survived, but not very many mature deer made it. Of all the deer I saw while there were all under 4.5 years old.

Their place has more draws on the west side than the east side, so more deer on the west side survived and the east side of the ranch is more of a ghost town if you will.

Talked to my buddy this weekend about their place that got hit. They lost about 40% of the deer. They had a unique observation that the outbreak seemed to happen in a certain area of the property that had a different soil type. He said that even months after the deer still avoid that area of the property.

We didn't have black buck previously so not sure about that one. The axis disappeared for a few months and came back full force.

I think the number of axis we had before were low because of so many whitetail as you would rarely see an axis at the feeders. Axis are now hogging the feeders with the fewer whitetail

35-40 miles southwest from Ozona, west of Pandale road, there were several cows lost on our place, one horse but haven't found any deer. Seemed like the numbers really dropped off my game cameras mid-late July and I was concerned, but by early November nothing noticeable in normal numbers showing up to feeders and on camera.

I have a friend that owns a small place south of Sonora Caverns and the few times he was out, only saw one hog, no deer or anything else.

Same at our lease, South of Ozona off 1973. Lost about 80% on south lease and I would say 99.9% on the north side. Only saw 2 does all year. Same ones I assume.
