Bingo, but I still don't like it.

Give it a few more days with no drastic changes & it's time to buy!

Looks like it's shaping up to be another big drop today.
Looking for a short term up.
Should I jump in now or wait another day or two?

Zero. No way I'd be selling my stocks now. I'm in it for another 20 years.

Good thinking. The drop could help you in the long run.

What's the hurry? Why not wait until you get absolute confirmation the virus "effect" is over?

I am very curious how it is going to wash out for us. We switched 401K providers. The blackout period started Monday morning. From what I understand funds were pulled and placed into a 'safe harbor' account from the old provider until the blackout period ends and we are active with the new provider. Haven't gotten a 100% clear answer yet, but it seems that we were insulated from the initial fall and for the next two weeks when the 401k is fully funded with the new provider.

Top economic adviser touting the buying opportunities:

Quote
Top White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told The Washington Post late Monday that investors should consider “buying these dips” in the stock market amid the coronavirus panic. The message was to take advantage of one-day slumps and “buy low.”

After all, the Dow Jones industrial average had just fallen 1,032 points. President Trump tweeted similar guidance thousands of miles away in India.

Less than 24 hours later, the Dow Jones industrial average would fall another 879 points, bringing Trump and Kudlow’s investment advice — at least in the short term — under greater scrutiny.

Buying on the dip is good but it works a lot better when you know where the bottom of the market is. Maybe Kudlow is just trying to average down.

Sounds like you got lucky. I'd call them.

For those asking when to buy the bottom; no one can tell you when that's going to be........the prudent way to buy is when the stock is below it's intrinsic value. Some will get lucky when they buy it will be at the bottom of this volatility cycle. Regardless buying this way will be good to you over the long term.......

I'm looking for a good short term return on some kind of index or balanced fund. 4-6 months max. I'll definitely be out again before the volatility of the fall elections hits. Plan to retire within the next 24 months...

Look for a high dividend fund. Most will be heavy with stocks like AT&T. Which is paying more than 5% now.

It is true that nobody can forecast the bottom of the market with certainty but it should be obvious that we have not seen the bottom yet.

correct, and I took some profits. I thought about taking them on Friday but decided to wait one day. A mistake. I had sell orders in by 5:30 Monday morning along with 1 buy. GOLD

One thing I hate about 401K providers (especially Fidelity) is they frown upon selling. Fidelity has sent me a couple of threats about excessive trading.

Rework your socialist math, and gives thought of optimism

Even with Corona V, markets still up 40 percent since your Current President took office

This why the wealth of doer’s increases and the projecting just get poorer.

The S&P closed below $3,000 which is a sell signal. Tomorrow could be ugly if margin calls and leveraged Hedge funds start dumping.
Fed better pump it tonight, unless they have decided to let the market get off of the cheap money.

I looked at futures around midnight. It's going to be ugly tomorrow. Many do not want to risk holding through the weekend.

I looked at mine last night and compared each to the highest dollar value it had achieved.

Brokerage A is off 9%
Brokerage B is off 6.5%
Brokerage C is off 2%

Its good to be diversified.
